Hello and welcome to Wikibooks!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

You will find more resources in Community Portal. If you want to ask a question, visit the Study help desk, the Staff lounge, IRC channel or ask me personally on my talk page. For site news, see the Bulletin board. It might be an idea if you add this page to your "watchlist" so that you can see when any new information is posted there.

Good luck! --Herby talk thyme 13:16, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Per the discussion at the Reading Room, I've decided to add a section on riding for beginners. Since you're also contributing to this book, could I get your input on whether this or this is a better way to integrate the planned content (i.e., adding a direct beginner chapter versus splitting the book into two sections)? I can't decide which is better (or if there's an even better alternative). Cheers, Tempodivalse 16:13, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dewikification[edit source]

Removing red links is fine, but is it really necessary to remove the references too? – Adrignola discuss 03:31, 19 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Great work[edit source]

I like what I see. Merge proposals, book splits. You're quite the WikiGnome! – Adrignola discuss 03:01, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I just like everything to be orderly. It seems I'll never run out of things to tinker with on this wiki. If you see any questionable decisions on my part, feel free to bring it up! I fear I can become too bold after an editing rampage. --Thereen (discusscontribs) 21:16, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I think I'm the only one over at Russian, so it's nice to finally know I'm doing a good job! You seem to know your way around Wikibooks, so I had a couple of questions, if I may... Is there a way to see all the changes made to an entire wikibook, even if the pages aren't in your watchlist? DD 8630 (discusscontribs) 18:14, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the welcome[edit source]

Hi Thereen. Just wanted to thank you for the nice welcome message and the help offer. --XanaG (discusscontribs) 22:57, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello![edit source]

Thanks! I am really excited to help contribute to the Canadian History Wikibook! I have gone through pages and fixed a lot of the formatting. Mitchturn (discusscontribs) 04:09, 11 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thereen, Thank you for your suggestion for merging the two books. I tried to do that in the beginning, but didn't see how I could do it. You see, the way that book was put together, feels as if someone had very little understanding of the language and just put down all they knew in a random order. There is no organization to that book. I don't want to delete it, for fear of conflict with the person who made that page. I just don't see how I could conjoin the two books, so i hope that makes sense. Also, I am planning to create a series called the Dedicated Learner Series, and the Hawaiian book is number one, therefore I cannot change the title of the book.

I hope you understand. Thanks for the compliments! And if you know of anyone who would be willing to have a conversation about languages, please have them start a discussion; I would love to talk with them! Master tongue (discusscontribs) 06:24, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick response! Your fear of conflict with the primary authors of Hawaiian is (to my mind) not necessary. In the last 30 days, you appear to be the only user making content edits to that book. The talk page has been inactive since 2008, and there is no strict guideline in place for further development to the book. It would seem that any primary authors that once edited the book are no longer active. Also, wikibooks is perfectly suited to collaborations between authors, as well as shifts in content and focus. In short, I see no problem with you imposing your planned structure and content on the wikibook titled Hawaiian. The pre-existing content could be worked into your plans as dialogue snippets or appendixes with vocabulary to learn.
Regarding your planned series, I am not sure that including the title of the series in each of your texts is the best course of action. I think it would be better if you were to acknowledge that each of the books you start are part of the "Dedicated Learner Series" on the content page of each book, rather than the title. Having simple titles, like Hawaiian makes your book more searchable, and therefore each book will reach more potential learners. --Thereen (discusscontribs) 00:11, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I suppose that does make a lot of sense. I will try that now. Thank you for your input in this decision. I apriciate all of your advise, and hope we can collaborate in the future on similar problems. It might take a while for me to transfer things over and change links, etc. Tell me what you think when it's all done. I would greatly accept your oppinions, as I have on this one. Thanks! I have imported your page from Wikipedia as you requested. It will need to be dewikied and made into a book. Good luck.

Useful tricks page ofr language authors[edit source]

Hi I have talked to some of you about the need to better pool our resources and ideas about writing good foreign language wikibooks. I noticed that some information was available under Authoring Foreign Language Textbooks, but not so much on what kind of tricks you can use to make your book more interactive. So I added a page "Useful tricks to it and gave a description of some of the tricks I am using @ Dutch. Hopefully we can use the Useful tricks page and its discussion page for a better exchange of ideas. I still think we need a better venue for that, but it's a start.
