Importing and import uploading[edit source]

To preserve edit histories and observe the attribution requirements of the licenses, content from our sister projects should be imported rather than simply pasted into a new module.

  • Importers can import pages from any of the English-language projects, Simple English Wikibooks, Meta, and Wikispecies.
  • Administrators, and import uploaders, can import from any wiki (even non-WMF).

Requests to import can be made to help in making or expanding a book, and to move works from other projects that fit Wikibooks' scope.

  • Place requests below and an administrator or importer will try to perform the import promptly.
  • Note that administrators and importers are not responsible for moving and cleaning up pages. Please watch this page for when the import is complete and take care of the imported page.

Administrators and importers:

  • Please read Help:Importing first.
  • To import a page, go to Special:Import.
  • Pages will by default import into Transwiki:Page's name, which can be moved to a new location.
  • After import, add {{dewikify}} to the page and make a note where the imported page has ended up.
  • Pages with extremely long edit histories may fail to import. In this case, a single revision which gives attribution to the source wiki will be imported. While this isn't ideal, it should satisfy our licensing. Note that repeated attempts to import may eventually bring over the history, so if it fails on the first attempt, you might want to try it a few more times. Please see bug 15000 (and vote for it to get it resolved sooner).

Non-free media uploading[edit source]

Where non-free media is required in a book, editors may request an administrator or uploader to upload the file by making a request below. Please provide the non-free media rationale.

Import and Merge[edit source]

Use this section for imports that need to be "history-merged" with a module that has already been started using copy-paste.

  • w:en:template:interlineartemplate:interlinear and associated subpages and module, as well as templates it is dependent on; @Eievie: started a copy-pasting of the pages and I continued before we were each separately alerted to the existence of this project page. There are no local changes that need to be preserved aside from customising to the ENWB environment, so perhaps this belongs in the subsequent section, but I put it here in case the existence of a previous copy-pasted page complicates the import technically. Thanks in advance. Arlo Barnes (discusscontribs) 23:34, 20 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
@Arlo Barnes:, I tried importing w:Module:Interlinear, but it wasn't very successful. I imported to the transwiki space to avoid over-writing of local templates/modules. The log is:
Transwiki:Interlinear No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
   Transwiki:Code 45 revisions
   Transwiki:Lua 58 revisions
   Transwiki:Module other 12 revisions
   Transwiki:Module rating 47 revisions
   Transwiki:Ombox 19 revisions
Transwiki:Arguments No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Documentation No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Documentation/config No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
   Transwiki:Documentation/styles.css 23 revisions
Transwiki:Effective protection expiry No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Effective protection level No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:File link No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Interlinear/data No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
   Transwiki:Interlinear/doc 9 revisions
Transwiki:Lang/data No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Language/data/iana languages No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Language/data/iana regions No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Language/data/iana scripts No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Language/data/iana suppressed scripts No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Language/data/iana variants No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:List No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Lua banner No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Message box No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Message box/configuration No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:No globals No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Protection banner No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Protection banner/config No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:TableTools No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).
Transwiki:Yesno No revisions imported (all were either already present, or skipped due to errors).

Presumably there was a lot of errors in the process. For example Module:Interlinear didn't import, and does not exist here at Transwiki:Interlinear, so there must have been errors in the import. I think many of these are module documentation templates/modules, so are not needed. How do you want to proceed? --Jules (Mrjulesd) 22:58, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

See Special:Log/import for pages that were successful. --Jules (Mrjulesd) 23:10, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you! While it would be nice to have the doc page in ship shape, I'll settle for working glossing via the template proper, which seems to have been accomplished. Arlo Barnes (discusscontribs) 01:14, 23 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Chess diagram imports[edit source]

I am working on a wikibook that concerns chess variants. In order to allow for a more advanced array of board sizes to be used, could I please request the other diagram templates at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Chess_diagram be imported? Such as the small diagram and the different-sized board diagrams? Thank you! – Itswikisam (tc) 05:32, 120 June 2022 (UTC) Itswikisam (discusscontribs) 05:38, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
