To preserve edit histories and observe the attribution requirements of the licenses, content from our sister projects should be imported rather than simply pasted into a new module. Wikibooks administrators and importers can import pages from any of the English-language projects, Simple English Wikibooks, Meta, and Wikispecies.

Requests to import can be made to help in making or expanding a book, and to move works from other projects that fit Wikibooks' scope. Place requests below and an administrator will try to perform the import promptly.

Note that administrators are not responsible for moving and cleaning up pages. Please watch this page for when the import is complete and take care of the imported page.

Administrators and importers: To import a page, go to Special:Import. After import, add {{dewikify}} to the page and make a note where the imported page has ended up. Pages will by default import into Transwiki:Page's name.

Where non-free media is required in a book, editors may request an administrator or uploader to upload the file by making a request below. Please provide the non-free media rationale.

Pages with extremely long edit histories may fail to import. In this case, a single revision which gives attribution to the source wiki will be imported. While this isn't ideal, it should satisfy our licensing. Note that repeated attempts to import may eventually bring over the history, so if it fails on the first attempt, you might want to try it a few more times. Please see bug 15000 (and vote for it to get it resolved sooner).

Import and Merge[edit]

Use this section for imports that need to be "history-merged" with a module that has already been started using copy-paste.

Request for Import V[edit]

Hi, could you please import wikipedia:Somaliland to Micronations/List of already existing micronations/Somaliland? Thanks in advance. Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 17:36, 20 December 2019 (UTC)

Wikimedia Error: Our servers are currently under maintenance or experiencing a technical problem. JackPotte (discusscontribs) 20:45, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
I'd just been trying to do this, too. I got that error once, and another time I got a thoroughly incoherent message about a missing <wikimedia> tag, or something like that. I figured I'd just try again every once in a while. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 20:50, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
(Oh, my mistake: <mediawiki>. :-)  --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 20:57, 20 December 2019 (UTC)
Could you please check is it working now? Thanks in advance, Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 07:50, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Nuthin' atm. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 11:24, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks anyway. Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 13:41, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
Not too surprising it's having difficulty with this one; it has over six thousand revisions. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 14:24, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
So do you recommend to copy paste the article, and put the permanent link to the revision of the page in the description? Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 15:39, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
@Pi zero: Hello? Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 09:05, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
@Dino Bronto Rex: I had intended to put off answering your question for maybe ten or twelve hours, in case maybe I got it to work by waiting till that time of day. I've noticed sometimes these big imports work better then. However, as often happens it was a long day and by the end of it I forgot.

Yes, that sounds like a good way to do it.

@Pi zero: OK, I will copy it right away. Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 15:09, 25 December 2019 (UTC)
Done ✅. The link to the page. Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 15:17, 25 December 2019 (UTC)

Request for importing Template:Tracked[edit]

Hi, could you import w:en:Template:Tracked and it's documentation pages from English Wikipedia? This template can be useful for linking to Phabricator tasks. I noticed we don't have such template here. Cordially, Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 01:27, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

@Masumrezarock100: Imported Template:Tracked and Template:Tracked/doc, and fixed some stuff on the latter that was broken because of peripheral things not here. You said documentation pages, plural; is anything else called for? --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 01:49, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
@Pi zero: Nah. I thought the template and it's documentation page depended some local (enwiki) templates. Should be enough if the template is working. Masumrezarock100 (discusscontribs) 01:55, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

2 templates[edit]

Could you please import w:Template:Card and w:Template:Infobox card game Thanks. Champion (discusscontribs) 07:06, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Wikipedian infoboxes are almost certainly not stylistically appropriate to Wikibooks. What do you have in mind? --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 22:23, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
{{Card}} imported. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 22:27, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Request for import VI[edit]

Could you please import wikipedia: Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence to The Story of Rhodesia/Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence. Thanks in advance, Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 14:55, 30 December 2019 (UTC)

Wikimedia error, again. JackPotte (discusscontribs) 19:15, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
Thanks anyway, Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 20:40, 30 December 2019 (UTC)
@JackPotte, Pi zero: Could you please try again? Thanks in advance and Happy New Year! Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 17:32, 31 December 2019 (UTC)
Happy New Year! Same problem. JackPotte (discusscontribs) 13:04, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks anyway, and Happy New Year again😅. Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 13:07, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
@JackPotte, Pi zero: Could you please try again? Sorry for the trouble and thanks in advance, Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 13:36, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
It's about 1400 UTC. Can't honestly say I'm surprised to see it not work atm. I suspect the best time of day to try might be around 0800 UTC, more or less (which would be 3:00 am where I am, and midnight on the US west coast; at which time, if I'm up at all, I usually don't think of it). Though I could be wrong about that; maybe some other point on the 24-hour cycle is actually better. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 14:05, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
(Happy New Year, btw. :-) --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 14:06, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
@Pi zero: Thank you very much and Happy New Year! Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 14:20, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
Hello? Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs)
I did try several more times at different times of day. Naturally I forgot to do so at the times of day I'd been most interested to try. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 16:38, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
Okay, that's very odd. It just "worked" in the sense that the operation didn't abort. It only picked up 21 revisions, though. Not sure what to do with that. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 16:44, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
Urk. It's "worse" than that. It looks like it actually did bring in lots more than 21 revisions, but it *reported* that it had only imported 21. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 16:47, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
The revision history looks like a hideous mess, with large numbers of duplicates of particular revisions. However, it seems as if each individual revision is represented many times, which means each is represented at least once, therefore it should satisfy the need to acknowledge all contributors for copyright purposes. And the window of the operation "working" appears to have closed. --Pi zero (discusscontribs) 16:58, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Dino Bronto Rex (discusscontribs) 17:07, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
