King's Gambit Accepted, Muzio Gambit[edit | edit source]

With 5. O-O, White gambits the knight for a massive lead in development. Most of the time Black takes the Knight and plays 6...Qf6 or 6...Qe7 afterward.

Sometimes White sacrifices her light-squared bishop to draw out the Black king on the heavy f-file, and the play is often White's initiative vs. Black's material lead.

Black can also sacrifice her d-pawn to slow down White with 5...d5 (Brentano defence) and then 6...gxf3.

There is also the Kling and Horwitz counterattck 5...Qe7.
