Stafford Gambit - Main Line
[edit | edit source]6.Nc3?
[edit | edit source]The White knight develops into the center and protects the e-pawn. This is not the best move because Black can win back their pawn with the aggressive move 6...Ng4. The only move which protects the f-pawn is Be3, though Black can take with their knight and then bishop, now even in material.
Black holds a comfortable advantage because the bishop and threat of the queen swinging over prevents White from castling.
