Catfish are part of the ray-finned fish group. The reason why this fish is named catfish is because of the barbels, which seem to look like whiskers of a cat. Catfish, as a seafood, is hunted and eaten in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

In central Europe, catfish is known for its role as an important dish in holiday feasts.
