5.e5[edit | edit source]

White maintains their material advantage and kicks the Black knight from its square. This aggressive move now enables the knight to jump forward on the board.

The common replies for Black are 5...Ne4 or 5...Ng4, putting pressure on the weak f-pawn. The former move sets up White to make a mistake by pushing with 6. d3 or 6. f3. The latter move threatens the e5 pawn which White pushed.
