Nakhmanson Gambit[edit | edit source]

This is the starting position of the Nakhmanson Gambit accepted. Black is now up 5 points of material and White must receive some kind of immediate compensation for their knight sacrifice. With their bishop directed right at White's weak f-pawn, they would love to play Qd5, an attack which threatens checkmate while attacking the undefended knight on e4. However, Black has the move 7...Nd6!, fixing both of these problems. Instead White must move their queen with check, leading to the move 7. Bxf7+! first needing to be played.
