  • Please make sure you follow our naming policy - modules should be named like Book Title/Chapter Title.
  • Need to rename a page? Use the move tab (only becomes available once your account is 4 days old - until then, ask for help).
  • To get a page deleted, add {{delete|your reason for requesting deletion}} to the top of the page.
  • If something you wrote was deleted, please read the deletion policy, and check the deletion log to find out why. Also check the RFD archives if applicable. You can request undeletion at WB:RFU, or ask the administrator who deleted the page.

Can you please clarify you position[edit source]

Regarding your vote on the Wikibooks:FlaggedRevs Extension/Unstable proposal, since you indicate a support for other proposals. Can you please clarify you position. Even change to objection and state what you object to, maybe others will support you on the changes you see as required. Thanks. --Panic (talk) 01:01, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are 2 changes you have not yet shown support for.
  1. Allow anyone to mark a page as reviewed to the 3rd level.
  2. Prevent admins from setting filters to automatically block.
Do you support these changes? The revision number is 1873833 Arlen22 (talk) 15:52, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Support #1, oppose #2 (very vague). I-20the highway 17:00, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations[edit source]

Congratulations on triggering the first hit on the edit filter extension. You've officially broken it in! – Adrignola talk 01:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Accidentally, of course. I-20the highway 01:03, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"American" time[edit source]

I wasn't aware Americans had their own method of measuring time... Midnight would be 12:00 a.m. on the 12-hour clock. Those in the military, medical, or other fields with 24-hour operations will use the 24-hour clock where midnight would be 0:00. Not all Americans use the 12-hour clock. – Adrignola talk 17:19, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I personally use 12-hour time. I-20the highway 17:22, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback[edit source]

See Help:Editing#Rollback. – Adrignola talk 23:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is mergable content. I-20the highway 23:01, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't make sense to me that we should have to import 500 templates for Template:Language icon, with each one just having a single word contained. So I modified {{language icon}} to use a switch instead, outputting the language name based on the ISO 639 input. The list is not yet complete, but this is a far more elegant solution. That saves us 1000 imports over Wikipedia's default code, where "Template:SUL Box" called "Template:xx icon" which called "Template:Language icon|xx" which called "Template:ISO 639 name xx". Too much nesting! – Adrignola talk 12:01, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Too much nesting is one reason why I don't care for people to import or copy templates over from Wikipedia. --darklama 12:10, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, we see why Wikipedia is bad. I-20the highway 12:33, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If that's a jab at me, too bad. I improve many of them and simplify them as noted above. – Adrignola talk 12:34, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't an intended comment per se. I'm just saying that Wikipedia's template structure is too complex for us. I-20the highway 12:36, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That was more to Darklama. I agree that the templates can be complex; I've simplified many of them down, all the way back to when I brought in Template:User language from Meta to replace all the User xx-X templates. But that doesn't mean that a lot of the templates at Wikipedia can't be useful to us. – Adrignola talk 12:38, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not a jab. I just cringe whenever I see people import or copy over a lot of templates because that tends to look like they think the templates could be useful some day without any plans to use them, which results in a lot of unused templates. I tend to be somewhat relieved whenever I see you simplify templates down, but I still often question whether anyone will actually be making use of the templates. I've seen what appears to be at times you changing your mind about the usefulness of a template because you sometimes delete templates that you imported. I think there would be less of that if you only imported templates you plan to use right away yourself or other people requested that you imported. --darklama 12:48, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know whether it's clear in recent changes, but sometimes my imports are simply to get the histories for templates that were already here. I'll mark those as "history merge/update". Like stated in another discussion, Wikipedia has a hundred citation templates while we have a fraction of that. I could have imported all those, but didn't. Sometimes new templates imported are dependencies for the template I'm really interested in. I won't deny that in some cases I've brought in a template I found really useful and felt should be part of our "standard library". – Adrignola talk 13:07, 21 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I share the same sentiments you convey below about templates. If nobody here is likely to use it, there's no point in trying to make it part of any "standard library". Time suggests that Wikibooks has little use for a "standard library" of templates because most standards are book specific. Organizational and maintenance templates tend to be the only exceptions that withstand the test of time. --darklama 17:25, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Transwiki[edit source]

Please don't bring in content that someone's just slapped a tag on at Wikipedia. If nobody here is likely to use it, there's no point in bringing it over, for it to duplicate content at Wikipedia and become out of date with the original. People can request the imports at WB:RFI if it's really needed. – Adrignola talk 14:59, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You can delete it. Thanks for letting me know. I-20the highway 15:00, 22 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification[edit source]

I'm confused by your comment on "B.S. from Wikiversity". What do you mean? This issue has been discussed at Wikiversity, yes, but also Wikisource, Commons, and Wikinews. The global lock affected all the projects. What makes Wikiversity stand out? – Adrignola talk 14:02, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, Jimbo did his reign on Wikiversity... I-20the highway 14:12, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that. I hit the wrong block link in the page history for the spammer. – Adrignola talk 18:49, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
