Items

Swords[edit | edit source]

Wooden Sword White Sword Magic Sword
File:LOZ1 Wooden Sword.png
Damage: 1

The first sword Link gets in the game. It is the weakest sword. In the game, it is merely referred to as "sword". In both quests it is found in Section 6.
File:LOZ1 White Sword.png
Damage: 2

The white sword is the second sword Link gets in the game. It is twice as powerful as the wooden sword, but less powerful than the magic sword. Link must have five Heart Containers before he can receive the white sword. In both quests it is found in Section 3.
File:LOZ1 Magical Sword.png
Damage: 4

The most powerful sword in the game, it is four times as powerful as the wooden sword. Link must have twelve Heart Containers before he can receive the Magic Sword. In the first quest it is found in Section 7, and in the second quest in Section 3.

Enemy Drop Items[edit | edit source]

Fairy Heart
File:LOZ1 Fairy.png
Fills 3 of Link's hearts. In the fairy ponds, the fairy will fill all of your heart meters.
File:LOZ1 Heart.png
A flashing heart. It refills Link's life meter by one full heart.
Rupees Stopwatch
File:LOZ1 Rupee.png
File:LOZ1 5 Rupees.png
The currency of Hyrule. Flashing rupees are worth one rupee, and blue rupees are worth five. Link can only carry 255 rupees at one time.
File:LOZ1 Stopwatch.png
When you pick one of these up, time and the enemies freeze. You can take your time in the area or room that you pick it up in, but the effect wears off as soon as you leave.

B Button Items[edit | edit source]

Bomb Boomerang Bow and Arrows
File:LOZ1 Bomb.png
Damage: 4

As you might expect, the bomb blows stuff up. It can be used to kill enemies or blast holes in weak walls. Link can only carry eight bombs at once at the beginning of the game, but later this capacity can increase to twelve and then to sixteen. Every bomb you pick up is actually a set of four.
File:LOZ1 Wooden Boomerang.png
File:LOZ1 Magical Boomerang.png
The boomerang stuns large enemies, kills small enemies like Keese and Gels, and can be used to retrieve items. The wooden boomerang can travel a distance of roughly half the screen while the magic boomerang has a longer range and can travel from one end of the screen to the other.
File:LOZ1 Bow.png
File:LOZ1 Arrow.png
File:LOZ1 Silver Arrow.png
Damage: 2 (wooden); 4 (silver)

You need a bow to shoots arrows and you must purchase arrows from a shop before you can use the bow. When shot from the bow, each arrow shot subtracts one Rupee from Link's total. The silver arrow is required to save Princess Zelda.
Magical Rod Letter Monster Bait
File:LOZ1 Magical Wand.png
Damage: 2; 1 (flame)

Shoots magical blasts similar to those thrown by Wizzrobes. Unlike your sword, the magical rod will fire even if you don't have full life.
File:LOZ1 Letter.png
A key item, this is the proof that you need to show to the Old Woman so that she will sell you the Water of Life.
File:LOZ1 Monster Bait.png
Attracts enemies, who will gather on top of the food and eat it. Enemies are vulnerable while they are eating. Monster Bait is costly, but it can sometimes get you out of a jam, and it's even needed sometimes in the underworld dungeons.
Candles Water of Life Whistle
File:LOZ1 Blue Candle.png
File:LOZ1 Red Candle.png
Damage: 1

Candles throw a flame a short distance. The blue candle can only be used once per screen. The red candle has the same effect as the blue candle, except there is no limit to the number of times it can be used per screen. Candles can light up dark rooms in dungeons, burn bushes in the overworld, and damage enemies in both.
File:LOZ1 Water of Life.png
File:LOZ1 2nd Potion.png
Completely refills Link's life bar. After the first use of the red potion, it turns into a blue potion. The blue potion can only fill up your life once. Drinking a Water of Life can also restore the sword sealing effect brought about by Bubbles.
File:LOZ1 Whistle.png
An item that summons a whirlwind which will transport Link to the entrance of any dungeon he has discovered. Facing right or up when the whirlwind whisks Link away will bring him to the next dungeon after the one he last arrived at, while facing left or down will bring him to the previous dungeon. It is especially useful in the 2nd Quest for discovering some secrets.

Dungeon items[edit | edit source]

Key Compass Map
File:LOZ1 Key.png
Each Key will open one door. Link can carry up to nine of them until he obtains the magic key.
File:LOZ1 Compass.png
Directs Link to the location of the Triforce. Like maps, one exists in each dungeon. Having them both gives you a big advantage.
File:LOZ1 Map.png
Gives a map of the current dungeon so that you won't get lost as easily. Every dungeon has one, try to find it as soon as possible.
Heart Container Piece of Triforce
File:LOZ1 Heart Container.png
Gives an additional heart to Link's life meter permanently, enabling him to take more damage before perishing.
At some points in the game, Link can choose between a Heart Container and a Potion bottle. Since the Heart Container is a permanent item, it is always the best choice.
File:LOZ1 Piece of Triforce.png
There are eight of these. One is present in each dungeon. All eight are required to gain access to Level 9.

Automatic items[edit | edit source]

Book of Magic Ladder Magic Key
File:LOZ1 Book of Magic.png
Causes the magic blasts from the Magic Wand to burst into flame when they hit a target. These flames can be used to light a room just like a candle. However, like the candle, the flames will harm Link on contact.
File:LOZ1 Ladder.png
Allows link to cross rivers and chasms that are as wide as he is. Link has an advantage of being able to attack enemies without reprisal when he stands on the ladder.
File:LOZ1 Magic Key.png
Opens doors. Can be used any number of times and eliminates the need for Keys. Your key count will read "A" once you have found the Magic Key.
Power Bracelet Raft Rings
File:LOZ1 Power Bracelet.png
Gives Link the ability to move heavy objects and use the secret Hyrulian passage ways. It is cleverly hidden somewhere in the overworld.
File:LOZ1 Raft.png
Allows Link to cross lakes and oceans, but it can only be used at a Dock. Neither of the 'double docks' trigger raft use.
File:LOZ1 Blue Ring.png
File:LOZ1 Red Ring.png
The blue ring cuts received damage in half and turns Link's outfit blue. The red ring cuts damage down to a quarter and turns Link's outfit red. The ring color worn will also affect Zelda's dress color. It also affects the shopkeepers clothes.
Shields
File:LOZ1 Shield.png
File:LOZ1 Magical Shield.png
Shields reflect certain enemy missile attacks. Link starts the game with a small shield. A magic shield reflects more attacks than the small shield. If you are eaten by a Like-Like and fail to escape in time, your magic shield will be eaten and replaced with a small shield.

Citizens

Link[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Link.png

Link is the destined hero of Hyrule, and the character that you control. Link can move in four directions, and is always armed with a sword as well as one other weapon of your choosing. When Link's sword is sheathed, he holds his shield out in front of him, but it only protects him in the direction he is facing. He starts with three Heart Containers and can reach a maximum of 16 by the end of the game. The Blue Ring, and later on the Red Ring, can substantially improve the amount of damage that Link can withstand before dying.

Zelda[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Zelda.png

Princess Zelda, daughter of the King of Hyrule, has been kidnapped by the evil Ganon. Before her capture, Ganon successfully claimed the Triforce of Power. With the Triforce of Courage's location unknown, and the Triforce of Wisdom under her family's protection, she broke the Triforce of Wisdom up into eight parts and scattered them throughout Hyrule. Ganon holds Zelda captive until she reveals the locations of the pieces, but she refuses. Link is Zelda's only hope for rescue.

Shop Keeper[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Shopkeep.png

Various shop keepers ply their trade throughout Hyrule offering common and uncommon goods alike. They often set up shop in many of Hyrule's cliff side caves, but some are harder to locate than others. Link's persistent searching is well rewarded as many of the hidden shop keepers have lower prices on essential items. Only one shop keeper however has the precious Blue Ring that grants protection. In the table below, best deals are in bold.

Old Woman[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Woman.png

Many women make their homes in Hyrule's caves and trees. It is common for the women of Hyrule to know the secrets to making the Water of Life, a Hyrulian recipe that restores the strength of those who drink it. However, they only sell this concoction to those who present the special Letter}} to them. Other women in Hyrule offer important information about the nearby vicinity, but sometimes only after being well compensated.

Old Man (Overworld)[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Man OW.png

A variety of men live in Hyrule's overworld as well. Like the women of Hyrule, they may dispense information. Hyrulian men are also fond of gambling and will play the Money Making game with anyone who will part with their rupees. However, some men of Hyrule prefer to be left alone. If you reveal their location by destroying their secret entrance, expect to be forced to compensate them for the repairs.

Old Man (Underworld)[edit | edit source]

File:LOZ Man UW.png

A few distinguished gentlemen prefer to make their homes among the dungeons of Hyrule. They wait there in order to aid explorers that pass through, and provide cryptic hints. If you attack them, they will counterattack, throwing you energy orbs from their braziers. Occasionally, they even sell enhanced bags that can hold more bombs. A more treacherous type of man can be found underground in the second quest who will force you to part with either your money or a heart container.

Enemies

Overworld Enemies[edit | edit source]

One HP (hit point) is equivalent to one attack with the wooden sword. Where two different HP are listed, the first one refers to the weaker red version, the second one to the stronger blue version.

Sorting enemies by HP, you can see them in an order that is closely related to their overall strength. Moreover, the strongest enemies can be encountered only in areas that can be accessed later in the game.

Image Name HP Damage Description
File:LOZ1 Red Octorok.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Octorok.png Octorok 1 / 2 1 A common enemy and the first enemy that Link is likely to encounter. They shoot rocks from their snout which can be blocked by the basic Shield. Red variety is weak. Blue variety is slightly tougher. Blue Octoroks may drop Bombs as treasure when they are defeated.
File:LOZ1 Red Tektite.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Tektite.png Tektite 1 / 1 1 Spider-like enemy that jumps unpredictably. They are capable of jumping over all terrain, including mountains and cliffs and other areas Link cannot get to. Blue variety may drop Bombs as treasure, but both usually drop a rupee as treasure.
File:LOZ1 Zora.png Zora 2 1 An enemy commonly present in the waters of Hyrule. Submerges and reappears, each time shooting a fireball that can only be blocked with the Magical Shield. They can be killed, but they must be eliminated before they return to the water or they gain all of their strength back.
File:LOZ1 Red Moblin.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Moblin.png Moblin 2 / 3 1 / 2 These monsters with bulldog faces are common in the forests of Hyrule. They shoot common arrows. Blue variety is more powerful than red and may drop Bombs as treasure. There are also good kinds as well that will give you rupees to help you on your quest.
File:LOZ1 Red Leever.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Leever.png Leever 2 / 4 1 / 2 Somewhat cylindrical enemy capable of burrowing into the ground and reappearing elsewhere. Blue variety reappears randomly. Red variety always reappears a few spaces directly ahead of Link.
File:LOZ1 Armos.png Armos 3 2 Inert suits of armor scattered around the Overworld that will come to life if Link touches them. They move at varying speeds, from extremely slow to extremely fast. They drop no treasure, but occasionally there is a secret passage or other item hidden beneath them that will be revealed when they begin to move.
File:LOZ1 Peahat.png Peahat 2 1 An enemy resembling a moving flower. They fly around and cannot be attacked while they spin. They are only vulnerable when they land and stand still, which never lasts for very long.
File:LOZ1 Rocks.png Rocks - 1 Falling rocks common near Death Mountain in the northern Overworld. They cannot be killed or blocked, only dodged. They tend to fall in groups of three and will follow Link as much as possible, but their movement is limited.
File:LOZ1 Red Lynel.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Lynel.png Lynel 4 / 6 2 / 4 ; 4 Powerful enemies resembling centaurs with lion head. They throw deadly swords that only the Magical Shield can deflect. Blue variety is significantly stronger, and a little faster, than Red variety.
File:LOZ1 Gheeni.png Ghini 9 2 Ghost present in the cemetery. There is one Ghini to begin with in each area of the graveyard, and this is the "master" and the only one that is vulnerable to attack. Other Ghini will appear as Link touches tombstones. All Ghini on the screen will die when the master is defeated. If Link touches a tombstone after the master is defeated, more Ghini will appear, and these will be invulnerable to attack.

Underworld Enemies[edit | edit source]

Where two HP (hit points) are listed, the first one refers to the weaker red version, the second one to the stronger blue version.

Sorting enemies by HP, you can see them in an order that is closely related to their overall strength. Moreover, weaker enemies are more common in early dungeons, while the strongest ones are more common in later dungeons. The three strongest enemies are often referred to as "mini-bosses" or "sub-bosses".

Damage refers to the amount of 1/2 heart it takes. If an enemy does 2 damage, it means 1 full heart without a ring. Slashes separate by contact and projectile, if damage differs. Commas separate damage from enemy type.

Image Name HP Damage Description
File:LOZ1 Keese.png Keese 01 1 Bats that zoom around the room attempting to bite you. Like Gels, they never drop treasure, but they can be killed if hit with the boomerang.
File:LOZ1 Stalfos.png Stalfos 02 1 / 4 Enchanted skeletons that wander around in dungeon rooms. They carry a sword in each bony hand and can hurt you if they touch you. In the Second Quest, Stalfos are able to throw swords.
File:LOZ1 Gel.png Gel 01 1 Very weak enemy with the shape of a tear drop. They never drop treasure, but they can be killed if hit with the boomerang.
File:LOZ1 Trap.png Traps - 1 Spiked jewels that will quickly slam toward Link if he walks in front of them. They are laid out by many of the dungeon room entrances and cannot be destroyed.
File:LOZ1 Red Goriya.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Goriya.png Goriya 03 / 05 1 / 2; 2 / 2 Giant walking rat type creatures that throw boomerangs, which you can block with your shield as long as you are not attacking. The Blue variety is significantly stronger than Red variety.
File:LOZ1 Wallmaster.png Wallmaster 02 1 Hand-shaped enemy that materializes out of walls. Relatively weak, but if it grabs hold of Link it will return him to the beginning of the dungeon.
File:LOZ1 Rope.png Rope 01 / 04 1 A snake-like enemy that make nests in certain rooms of the dungeons. They will suddenly speed up and charge toward Link if they line up with him. On the second quest, they flash and take more hits.
File:LOZ1 Moldorm.png Moldorm 12 1 Relatively slow-moving wormlike enemy. Appears in a "worm" of five or six segments that resemble fireballs. Attacking it with the sword decreases its length until it's defeated. Upon defeating it, it will never have to be fought again.
File:LOZ1 Zol.png Zol 01 2 An enemy resembling a blob with eyes. If it is hit with an attack that does not do 2 or more damage, it will split into two Gels.
File:LOZ1 Red Darknut.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Darknut.png Darknut 04 / 08 2 / 4 Powerful knights that are invulnerable to attack from the front and most weapons. They are, however, vulnerable from the back and sides using the sword, sword beam, or magical rod (not the shot nor flame). Bombs also harm it and are more preferred in tight spots. The Blue variety is faster and stronger than the Red variety.
File:LOZ1 Bubble.png Bubble - 0 Glowing enemies that are invulnerable. Touching one disables your sword usage for a few seconds. In the Second Quest, there are Red and Blue varieties. The Red Bubble permanently stuns your sword usage until you touch a Blue Bubble, drinks Water of Life, or visit an overworld fairy, or until the game is reset.
File:LOZ1 Vire.png Vire 02 2 A bouncing winged demon. If it is hit with an attack that does not do 3 or more damage, it will split into two red Keeses. These Keeses are otherwise identical to the more common variety.
File:LOZ1 Like-Like.png Like-Like 09 2 A tube like enemy with a penchant for metal. If this enemy grabs hold of Link, it may devour Link's Magical Shield, leaving him with an ordinary Shield.
File:LOZ1 Pols Voice.png Pols Voice 10 4 Big-eared rabbit-like enemy that bounces around over barriers. While they have high defense, 1 arrow will kill it. Alternatively, in the Famicom Disk version, you can blow into the microphone from the second controller to eliminate them (cannot be used in the AV Famicom console).
File:LOZ1 Gibdo.png Gibdo 07 4 Slow moving mummies with a high defense that like to continuously run in to you. They can take several hits, but relatively weak offensively.
File:LOZ1 Red Wizzrobe.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Wizzrobe.png Wizzrobe 04 / 10 2 / 8 ; 4 Powerful enemy resembling a robed wizard. They are vulnerable only to sword and bombs. They are capable of shooting powerful magical blasts. The red variety teleports about the room and shoots 1 very powerful blast. The blue variety roams around, can pass through walls, and can spam blasts.
File:LOZ1 Red Lanmola.pngFile:LOZ1 Blue Lanmola.png Lanmola 20 / 32 4 Fast-moving worm-like enemy. Attack shorten its length until only the head remains. The Magical Rod with the Book of Magic is an effective weapon to use. Blue variety is much faster than Red variety.
File:LOZ1 Patra.pngFile:LOZ1 Patra eye.png Patra 72 4 Present only in Level 9 and acts like a boss. The center blue eye cannot be harmed until the red eyes circulating are defeated. There are 2 types of red patras: Ones that cycle around and ones that expand through the room.

Bosses

Many bosses are recurring in the game. Here they are sorted by first appearance in the first quest.

Note: HP is based on weapon damage. Those marked with a "*" requires special methods to defeat it.

Image Name HP Damage Description
File:LOZ1 Aquamentus.png Aquamentus 6 2 / 1 1st Quest: 1 (Boss), 7 (Boss).

2nd Quest: 1 (Boss), 4, 8.

A dragon that shoots fireballs that split in three directions and can only be blocked by the Magical Shield. Vulnerable to the Sword and Arrows. Can also be killed by two Bombs. Aquamentus is the boss of dungeons one and seven of the first quest, but only of dungeon one in the second quest.

File:LOZ1 Dodongo.png Dodongo 1* 2 1st Quest: 2 (Boss), 5, 7.

2nd Quest: 1, 3 (Boss), 4, 8 (Boss).

Slow-moving rhinoceros boss. Often appearing in groups, they are only vulnerable to Bombs. An effective tactic is for Link to place the bomb directly in front of Dodongo's mouth. Each Dodongo will be defeated after eating two Bombs, but you can also stun a Dodongo if you can make a Bomb go off in it's face. If you do, he will be stunned and temporarily vulnerable to an attack from your sword with just 1 strike; if you kill it this way, you are guaranteed bombs. A single Dodongo is the boss of dungeon two in the first quest, and a trio of Dodongos is the boss of dungeons three and eight in the second quest.

File:LOZ1 Manhandla.png Manhandla 16 2 1st Quest: 3 (Boss), 4, 8.

2nd Quest: 2, 5, 6, 7.

Four-headed plant boss. Moves slowly at first, and then more quickly as it loses arms. While it is vulnerable to the Sword, it is possible for one well-placed Bomb to defeat this boss in a single strike. A less direct hit will at least sever one or more arms. Manhandla is only the boss of dungeon three in the first quest, but he reappears quite frequently as a monster in several other dungeons.

File:LOZ1 Gleeok.pngFile:LOZ1 Gleeok head.png Gleeok 10 / 15 / 20 2 1st Quest: 4 (Boss), 6, 8 (Boss).

2nd Quest: 2 (Boss) 5 (Boss), 6, 7 (Boss).

A recurring underworld boss, Gleeok is a dragon with two, three or four heads. Link must attack each head. When a head takes enough damage it detaches from the body and flies around the room, continuing to attack Link. The flying heads are not vulnerable to attack, so dodge their projectiles and focus on the attached heads. Gleeok is the boss of dungeons four (with two heads) and eight (with four heads) of the first quest, and dungeons two (with two heads), five (with three heads), and seven (with four heads) of the second quest.

File:LOZ1 Large Digdogger.pngFile:LOZ1 Small Digdogger.png Digdogger 8* 8 1st Quest: 5 (Boss), 7.

2nd Quest: 4 (Boss), 8.

Sea urchin boss. Appears as a large yellow circle with an eye in the middle. Blowing the Whistle will cause Digdogger to split into as many as three smaller parts which can be defeated with the Sword. Digdogger is the boss of dungeon five in the first quest, and dungeon four in the second quest.

  • In Famicom versions where the second joystick has microphone function, it is possible to shout at the microphone to cause Digdogger to split, just like using the Whistle in other versions.
File:LOZ1 Gohma.png Gohma 2* / 6* 4 / 2 1st Quest: 6 (Boss), 8.

2nd Quest: 5, 6 (Boss), 7.

Crab monster boss. Its large central eye is its only weak spot. He normally keeps the eye closed, but opens it briefly from time to time. That is your chance to attack it with its only vulnerability, the Arrow. The red Gohma can be defeated with one shot; the blue one takes three. Gohma is the boss of dungeon six in the first quest, as well as dungeon six in the second quest.

File:LOZ1 Ganon.png Ganon 16* 8 / 2 1st Quest: 9 (Boss).

2nd Quest: 9 (Boss).

The final boss. Capable of becoming invisible and moving around the room. Link must use his judgment and stab at the place where he predicts Ganon will materialize next. After wounding him enough, he will become stunned and visible. Then only a single attack from the special the Silver Arrows can do him in and allow Link to save the Princess. Without this weapon, Ganon will gain his strength back and continue his assault on Link. The weapon can only be found in the final dungeon, but can Link locate it? Ganon is the boss of the final dungeons, dungeon nine of the first and second quests.

Cheats

Cheats[edit | edit source]

  • Second Quest: By entering your name as "Zelda" when you start the game, you will immediately begin the Second Quest without having to play the First Quest.
  • Reduce Enemies: If you leave one monster on a screen, no other monsters will respawn, and every time you visit the screen, there will be only one monster.
  • Enemy Change: If a room has a mixture of enemies without locked doors, you can defeat the easy enemies in that room first, leave the room, and then return later. This is useful when dealing with rooms that contain mixed enemies with a Blue Darknut or a Blue Wizzrobe; leave and returning could transform them to weaker enemies.
  • Unlock a Door Without a Key in the First Dungeon: When you enter the first dungeon, immediately leave and come back. The locked door will open.
  • Money Making Game: Immediately to the left of the start screen, there is a rock face that can be bombed to reveal a cave where the money making game can be repeatedly played. If you lose or gain a lot of rupees, press Start to access the weapons screen. Then, on the second controller, press Up + A simultaneously. The game will immediately end, bringing you to the "CONTINUE", "RETRY" or "SAVE" option. If you've lost money, select "RETRY" and you'll be back at the start screen, with your previous rupee count intact. If you've been lucky and gained a lot of rupees, select "SAVE" and you'll go back to the character select screen. In either case, the total number of replays for your character will not advance and you can quickly move back to the money making game to maximize your earnings.
  • Safety Tip: Some of the most difficult dungeon rooms (ones full of Darknuts for instance) can be cleared with minimal to no damage taken. Stand in the doorway, just enough to not go through. If you have full health, step forward and fire sword beams. Otherwise, only enter the room when it is possible to strike and return to safety. Shutter Doors can be cheated in this manner as well. As long as Link doesn't entirely cross the threshold, the door will not close and lock.

Walkthrough

This walkthrough uses the following notation throughout each quest.

  • This is a mandatory task that must be completed before any of the tasks listed below it.
    • This is an optional task that is listed at the earliest time that it becomes possible to complete.

There are many things that are immediately available to you in the Overworld before you even set foot in the Underworld. You may choose to take advantage of that fact early in your quest, or wait until you have grown a little stronger instead.

For both quests, having the bommerang received in level 1 will make navigation in the overworld much easier. Almost every enemy, especially the lynels, can be stunned while you proceed to the next area.

You are not required to complete the levels in their numerical order. You can enter any dungeon at any time, provided you have the proper means to access it. The order listed below is merely one suggested approach.

After you beat the game for the first time, you will have completed the first quest. If you continue your game afterwards, you will begin the second quest.

1st Quest Overview[edit | edit source]

  • Collect the wooden sword from the cave immediately visible from your starting position in the lower right corner of section six.
    • Earn 60 rupees and purchase the Blue Candle.
    • Earn enough rupees (160, 130, or 90 if you have the Blue Candle and uncover one of the secret shops) to purchase the Magic Shield.
    • Collect some bombs and obtain the heart containers found in the lowest row of section four and the giant boulder in section one.
    • Use the Blue Candle to burn one of the trees in the upper right corner of section six in order to collect another heart container.
    • Once you have at least 5 total heart containers, head to the cave above the waterfall in section three to obtain the White Sword.
    • Travel through the Lost Woods and the cemetery to reach an area in section five where you can discover the Power Bracelet which will allow you to use the secret passageways found in section seven, section four, and section one.
    • Save up 250 rupees to buy the Blue Ring from the hidden shop located in the top left corner of section six.
    • Earn 80 rupees and purchase wooden arrows.

The stairwell can also serve as a shortcut between the two sections of this area. If you burn the lower tree just left of center, you will find a stairwell, but the man inside will charge you 20 rupees for repairs.
4 Inside this cave, you will find a woman who you can bribe for information. The more you pay, the more she'll say. If you bomb the wall just right of the crack, you will find a cave where a Moblin lives who will give you 30 rupees. This is the entrance to the third dungeon.

2nd Quest[edit | edit source]

A B C D E
1 See Section 7 There may be secrets where faries don't live, but this lake is in fact an ordinary lake now. This is a lake where one of the life granting fairies live. See Section 6
2 By burning down the lower right tree, you will reveal a stairwell that leads to 10 rupees. By burning the lower left tree, you will find the entrance to the home of the richest Moblin in the 2nd quest, the only Moblin that will give you 100 rupees.
3 Blowing the whistle in this area will cause a staircase to appear. Descend the staircase to discover a man playing the Money Making game. This is the Lost Woods. Only by passing through the woods in the proper sequence, can you hope to escape to the west. By paying the woman in the lower left corner of Hyrule, you can learn that sequence: North, West, South, West. If you burn the lower tree just left of center, you will find a stairwell, but the man inside will charge you 20 rupees for repairs.
4 Inside this cave, you will find a woman who you can bribe for information. The more you pay, the more she'll say. Blowing the whistle in this area will cause a staircase to appear. Descend the staircase to discover an entrance, but the man inside will charge you 20 rupees for repairs. No longer can you find a dungeon entrance in this location. Instead, you will simply find a shop that sells the Magic Shield for 160 rupees, a Key for 100 rupees, or the Blue Candle for 60 rupees.

Underworld

Hyrule's underworld is made up of nine labyrinth dungeons. The entrance to some dungeons, particularly the earlier ones, are right out in the open, while some require a step or two to expose. Each labyrinth is in a particular shape, be it an object, symbol, or even a letter of the alphabet. Unlike the Overworld, the underworld of the second quest differs drastically from that of the first quest.

General tips[edit | edit source]

  • Most items that you can find in the dungeons can only be obtained when you defeat every monster in a room. The only monsters that do not count are bubbles or traps, which can not be beaten. Therefore, it is in your best interest to clear every room at least once if you are trying to maximize your collection.
  • Doors which are not open or locked, but rather shut with a diamond pattern printed on the door, can only be opened either by defeating every monster in the room, or by pushing certain blocks in the room after all of the monsters are defeated.
  • Blocks which must be pushed in order to open doors, or reveal staircases, can only be pushed once every monster in the room is defeated. The block to push is usually the first block from the left along the center (fourth) row of a dungeon room.
  • If you unsure of how to proceed through a dungeon, be sure to bomb every wall that you encounter which does not contain a door. You will typically find passageways that lead further in to the dungeon. It is also not uncommon to find passages to rooms in the "eyes" or unmarked rooms on the dungeon map.
  • In the second quest, it is also possible to walk through certain walls that are simply illusions. To do so, push against the wall until access to the room beyond is granted.
  • When fighting against monsters, Link is capable of swinging his sword upwards through a block, and still hit a monster directly above the block on the opposite side. He can not do this in any other direction other than up.
  • Another useful tactic when fighting monsters is using the ladder to position yourself safely on water where the monsters are incapable of reaching you. This is particularly effective against Darknuts, but completely ineffective against blue Wizzrobes who can still collide in to you while levitating over the water.

1st Quest[edit | edit source]

2nd Quest[edit | edit source]

Overworld/Quest 1

The overworld of Hyrule.
The overworld of Hyrule.

It is possible to get half of the items in the game before entering Level 1.

It is actually possible to do it quite quickly if you get all the secret rupees hidden around Hyrule's overworld.

This page guides you through the overworld along the most economical path to get all items and treasures.

Get to the western Fairy Fountain[edit | edit source]

Link starts the game equipped with a small Shield and three Heart Containers.

On the starting screen, go into the cave, where you will be given the Wooden Sword File:LOZ1 Wooden Sword.png.

The landscape here is made of green rocks. From there, walk one screen north and two screens west, where you will find a river. Cross the river, follow it south, and enter the cave to get a hint: "Meet the old man at the grave."

Head one screen north and two screens west, where the landscape changes: you're now in the brown forest. From here, walk two screens north, where you find the Fairy Fountain (at D1 in Section 8).

Get some bombs[edit | edit source]

The Fairy Fountain should become your headquarters, where you can replenish your heart whenever you get near to a critical state.

Fight and defeat the Moblins in the nearby area until they drop some Bombs File:LOZ1 Bomb.png that you can collect. If you leave one enemy alive in any screen, the other monsters will not respawn: this can be useful to explore and easily backtrack to the Fairy Fountain.

Buy the blue candle[edit | edit source]

From the Fairy Fountain, walk three screens south then two screens west (when you have a choice of two paths, take the lower one). Use a bomb just right of the notch in the rock wall, and you'll find 30 Rupees.

Now go back to the Fairy Fountain and heal. From there, walk south two screens then four screens east, back in the green rocks area. Set a bomb just to the left of the prominence of the rock wall, and you'll find 30 Rupees.

Go one screen west and enter the door. You can purchase the Blue Candle File:LOZ1 Blue Candle.png for 60 Rupees.

Get to the eastern Fairy Fountain[edit | edit source]

The blue candle can be used to burn trees to reveal secrets. Such secrets are never on the edge of the screen: save time and spare those poor trees.

Go one screen west and then follow the river north. In the next screen you're on Lake Hylia. Follow the coast east.

In the next screen there are six trees in the middle. Use the candle to burn the lower-left one, and you'll get 10 Rupees.

Follow the coast of Lake Hylia one screen north and one east. On this screen burn the fifth tree from the right, and you'll find a fourth Heart Container File:LOZ1 Heart Container.png. Do not choose the potion: that can be purchased elsewhere, but the heart container is unique.

On the next screen, burn the trees in the upper-right corner to find 30 Rupees.

Walk one screen south to leave the Hylia lakeshore and enter the green forest. Walk one screen east, then two screens north, and you'll get to the eastern Fairy Fountain.

Buy a magical shield[edit | edit source]

Leave the Fairy Fountain and walk two screens east, then you're forced to go south. On the first screen there are six trees in the middle: burn the lower-left one to get 10 Rupees.

Contine south one screen. Now there are several trees in the middle. The third tree from the left on the lower row can be burned down, and this grants you 100 Rupees.

Continue south, and you'll get to the seashore. Place a bomb on the horizontal rock wall to your left, and you'll reveal the fifth Heart Container File:LOZ1 Heart Container.png.

Walk back north two screens in the green forest, then go east two screens (take the top path), then go north one more screen. There are several trees in the middle. Burn the tree on the lower-right, and you'll reveal a shop where you can buy a Magical Shield File:LOZ1 Magical Shield.png for just 90 Rupees. You should be left with at least 60 Rupees, plus all the Rupees dropped by defeated enemies.

Get the letter and buy a red potion[edit | edit source]

From the convenience shop, walk one screen east. Push the Armos on the right, and you can get 10 Rupees.

Back one screen, north one screen. Once more with feeling: push the Armos on the right, and you win 30 Rupees.

Walk north one more screen, and you're on the seashore again. Set a bomb on the horizontal rock wall to the right of the staircase, and you'll find 30 Rupees.

Walk one screen west, and you get at the foot of the eastern mountains. There's a huge rock in the middle of the screen: set a bomb on its lower-right corner, and you can get the sixth Heart Container File:LOZ1 Heart Container.png.

Climb the stairs north, to a screen with eight inanimate Armos. The one to be pushed is the second one from the right in the upper row. Under it there's a secret hint to find the 7th Dungeon: "Secret is in the tree at the dead-end."

Go east one screen, then go south one screen. Follow the coastline one screen north and one east, then climb the staircase. In the cave the old man gives you the Letter File:LOZ1 Letter.png to obtain the potions.

Climb down the stairs, go one screen west, then climb up the next stairs. Place a bomb on the short horizontal part of the rock wall, and you'll meet an old woman. Use the letter, and she'll sell you a Red Potion File:LOZ1 2nd Potion.png for 68 Rupees. You should be left with at least 60 Rupees, plus all the Rupees dropped by monsters.

Buy the blue ring[edit | edit source]

After purchasing the potion, you should be left with at least 60 Rupees, plus all the Rupees dropped by monsters.

Climb down the stairs and walk two screens east, until you get to a dead end. Stand directly next to the right-hand branch of the bigger tree, and walk north straight into the rock wall: you'll get to a secret area that grants you 100 Rupees.

Now it's time to backtrack to the eastern Fairy Fountain and continue on until the western Fairy Fountain. If you remembered to leave one enemy alive on each screen, this should be feasible.

Leave the western Fairy Fountain, and walk one screen east to the coast of Lake Hylia. Follow the coast two screens north. On the top screen, push the upper-middle Armos to reveal a shop. There, you can buy the fabled Blue Ring File:LOZ1 Blue Ring.png for a whopping 250 Rupees.

Get the white sword[edit | edit source]

Follow the lake shore south, east and north. When the landscape changes to brown trees, go north one more screen. In that screen, burn the green tree in the lower-right to get 30 Rupees.

Now, continue west one screen, then follow the river in the eastern mountains. Follow the river up to its spring, and in a cave on the same screen you'll be given the White Sword File:LOZ1 White Sword.png, but only if you have six heart containers (D1 in Section 3).

Buy the arrows[edit | edit source]

After heading back to the western Fairy Fountain, leave and walk two screens west. Burn the tree in the lower-right corner to get 10 Rupees.

Walk one screen south and one east. This screen is divided in two by a line of trees. Burn the top tree in the line to get 100 Rupees.

Go north one screen then east two screens, to the coast of Lake Hylia. Go one screen north, then enter the shop to buy the Arrows File:LOZ1 Arrow.png for 80 Rupees.

Get the Power Bracelet[edit | edit source]

The Power Bracelet is located on Death Mountain, and this early in the game that area can only be accessed through the graveyard. Both areas are filled with strong monsters, but you should have enough equipment to make it. It is advised that you replenish your health at the Fairy Fountain beforehand.

After doing so, leave the western Fairy Fountain and walk one screen west, one screen south (take the left path), and one screen west again. You are now in the Forest Maze (B1 in Section 8).

In the Forest Maze, it can get very confusing. The North, South and West paths all feed back into the same area in a loop. The only two ways to leave the Forest Maze are by going east one screen, or by a secret method which is currently the only way to get to the graveyard.

The secret method is: walk one screen north, then one screen west, then one screen south, and finally one screen west again. You should now be at the entrance of the graveyard (A3 in Section 8).

Walk three screens north then three screens east (to D4 in Section 7); climb the stairs on the right and walk one screen east (to A3 in Section 5). You are now at the foot of Death Mountain. On this screen there are two rows of Armos: push the one on the upper-right corner to reveal the Power Bracelet File:LOZ1 Power Bracelet.png.

There is one last hidden stash left. Walk one screen north and one west. Place a bomb in the upper-left corner of the wall rock to reveal 30 Rupees.

Now you can backtrack to the western Fairy Fountain. You can also use the power bracelet to reveal underground passageways and skip the graveyard. Visit the same shop on lake Hylia that sells the Blue Ring: there you can buy the Monster Bait File:LOZ1 Monster Bait.png for the lowest price.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 1

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Bow.
  • Obtain the Wooden Boomerang.
  • Beat Aquamentus, obtain his heart container and the first Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Advised Preparation[edit | edit source]

The amount of preparation advised is too much to list here; see The Legend of Zelda/Overworld/Quest 1 to see a comprehensive guide.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  • The entrance to this dungeon is found on Lake Hylia (at A-4 of section 3), just over the bridge which is a short distance north from where you begin the game.
  • Start by clearing the rooms both right (Q-6) and left (O-6) of the entrance to obtain two Keys.
  • At this point there is a glitch where if you leave the dungeon and re-enter, the first locked door is unlocked.
  • Clear the next two rooms above the entrance (to P-4). The north wall in the room can be bombed to reveal a hidden pathway and save one Key.
  • In the room past the hidden pathway (P-3) you encounter some Gels guarding a Map.
File:LOZLinkgetsthebow.png
Link gets the bow.
  • From the map room, go left to arrive in room O-3 with a single block. The door to the left can be opened by moving the block in any direction once all of the monsters are cleared. The room to the left contains a man who gives you a hint as to the whereabouts of a secret stash of rupees (in the north-eastern corner of the overworld).
  • From the hint room, backtrack two screens then continue up twice, clearing each room as you go to obtain Keys. Then head left and you'll enter room O-1 with Traps in each corner and a stairwell in the center surrounded by blocks. The left most block can be pushed aside so you can enter the stairwell. Here you will find the Bow. You must still purchase arrows if you want to use it (and you may purchase them before the bow is found so that you can use it immediately).
  • Return to the map room, go down one more room and enter the room to the right to obtain the Compass (at Q-4). Both of the north walls in the compass room and the previous room can be bombed to reveal hidden pathways. Cross the wall in the compass room to room Q-3 (you just saved another key). Defeat all of the Goriyas to obtain the Wooden Boomerang.
  • From the boomerang room, go right to room R-3. You can obtain a key here, but beware of the Wallmasters. They are enticed to come out whenever Link stands next to a wall. If you are picked up by one, you will be deposited at the dungeon entrance.
  • From the wallmaster room, go up to room R-2 to fight the boss.

Boss[edit | edit source]

File:LOZthefirstbossofthefirstquest.png
Aquamentus
File:LOZLinkgetsthefirstpieceoftheTriforce.png
The first Triforce piece
  • The boss is Aquamentus. You must strike him in the head six times with the Wooden Sword or three times with the White Sword. Time your strikes between the energy orbs that he emits from his horn. Only the Magical Shield will absorb the energy orbs. Link will receive damage if he tries to block them with the regular shield. If you're firing sword beams, you can strike any part of his body. If you have less than full health and actually have to approach him to slash, only the head is vulnerable.
  • Defeat him to earn a Heart Container. Enter the room to the right to obtain the first Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • If you followed this walkthrough, you should still have three spare keys.
  • If you have the letter, you can purchase healing potions from the cave north of Level 1.
  • A Fairy lake is two screens to the east; to get there, make a detour to the south.
  • If you didn't have a Magical Shield yet, you can purchase one from a [[../../../Citizens#Shop Keeper|hidden shop keeper]] for just 90 Rupees.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 2

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Magical Boomerang.
  • Beat Dodongo.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the second Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

None.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  • The entrance to this dungeon is easily found at A-1 of section 2. Approach it from the area to the south.
  • From the entrance, pick up one key from the room immediately to the right, and pick up another key in the room above and to the left of the entrance.
  • From the entrance, go up once and right twice, to find the Compass. The north wall of the compass room can be bombed to reveal a hidden passage.
  • Above the compass room, you can obtain the Map. The north wall of the map room can also be bombed.
  • Above the map room, defeat the three Goriyas to obtain the Magical Boomerang. Be careful of the energy orbs fired from the statues in the four corners. The north wall can be bombed.
  • From the magic boomerang room, the left room and the room above that one both contain keys. The room above the magic boomerang room has bombs. The north wall of that room can also be bombed.
  • Three rooms above the boomerang room, a man gives you a hint about how to defeat the boss of the dungeon. The left wall of the man's room can be bombed.
  • From the man's room, go left one room, and up one room to find the boss.

Boss[edit | edit source]

File:LOZthesecondbossofthefirstquest.png
Dodongo
File:LOZLinkgetsthesecondpieceoftheTriforce.png
The second Triforce piece
  • The boss is Dodongo. There are two ways to beat him. Either place two bombs in front of Dodongo so that he eats them, or place a bomb so that it blows up in his face before he eats it. If it blows up in his face, he will be stunned, leaving him vulnerable to a slash from the sword or to earn another set of bombs.
  • Defeat him to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the left room to obtain the second Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • A replacement shield is one screen south and one screen east, as is Monster Bait. You can buy health here.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 3

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Raft.
  • Beat Manhandla.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the third Piece of Triforce.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

File:LOZLinkgetstheraft.png
Link gets the raft.

No preparation is necessary before diving into this dungeon.

  • The entrance to this dungeon is located at E-4 of section 8. Approach it from the area to the west.
  • From the entrance, go left and clear this room and the above to obtain two keys.
  • Move up to the next room above. The right wall can be bombed to expose a hidden passage that can serve as a significant shortcut to the end of the dungeon.
  • Proceed left to the next room to obtain the Compass.
  • From the compass room, enter the left room, and then the room below to locate a stairwell. Down these stairs, you will find the Raft.
  • From the raft room, move up two rooms, and two rooms to the right and end up in a room with four doors.
  • From here, the pathway above is optional if you wish to obtain information about the location of the White Sword. If you enter the room above, open the north door by pushing the left block. Enter the room to the left of the man to obtain a key.
  • From the four door room, head right to next room and obtain the Map. You can bomb the right wall to expose a shortcut to the dungeon boss.
  • Otherwise, from the map room, head down to the room below, clear it of the Darknuts, head right and defeat the Keeses and Zols, and open the door above.

Boss[edit | edit source]

File:LOZthethirdbossofthefirstquest.png
Manhandla
File:LOZLinkgetsthethirdpieceoftheTriforce.png
The third Triforce piece
  • The boss is a Manhandla. To defeat it, you must remove all four heads. You can do so by stabbing each one individually, but it's faster to place a well timed bomb that explodes on the center of the body, eliminating all four heads at one time. Since Manhandla moves unpredictably, it takes a little luck to drop the bomb at just the right place.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the third Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • One screen west then three screens north provide a healing Fairy.
  • One screen north allows purchase of a Water of Life.
  • Three screens north of the medicine woman allows purchasing Monster Bait.
  • A Magical Shield can also be obtained two screens east and two screens north. Note that it is also available two screens east, but it is more expensive there.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 4

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Ladder.
  • Defeat the 2 headed Gleeok.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the fourth Piece of Triforce.

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

  • Raft.

Advised Preparation[edit | edit source]

  • Use the raft to launch off from the dock at D-4 in section one and collect a Heart Container.

Dungeon Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Link gets the ladder.
  • To enter this dungeon, you must have obtained the Raft from dungeon three. Once you have it, you can launch the Raft from the dock at B-3 in section six.
  • From the entrance, go left and clear this room to obtain a Key.
  • After that, from the entrance, head up and open the right door to find the Compass. Remember that unless you have the Magical Sword, the Vires will split up in to two Keese.
  • The compass room is one of the first dark rooms you encounter. If you have trouble going through these rooms, you can light them with the Blue Candle.
  • From the compass room, return to the left, and head up. Obtain a key in this room, then head left again, and up to locate another Key.
  • Head up once more, and you will reach a room whose north door is currently unreachable. Head right and defeat all of the Vires and Keese in the room to open the right door way. If you travel up from this room, you can see the Map, but you can not obtain it from this direction.
  • When you enter the room with two individual blocks, defeat all of the Zols and Like-Likes, while taking care to avoid the Bubbles. When the room is cleared (except for the Bubbles) push the left block to the right to reveal a staircase. Head down the stairs to find the Ladder.
  • Once you have obtained the Ladder, return to the room all the way on the left with the unreachable door. You may now use the Ladder to cross the gap and access the door. Enter it, and head right to obtain the Map.
  • From the map room, you can return to the left, or you can bomb the top wall to reveal a pathway which leads to an unmarked room on the map. In it, you will find 10 Rupees, and every wall in that room can also be bombed.
  • If you return to the left and head up, you will face another Manhandla which you must defeat to proceed up. Once you do, you will encounter a man who will reveal information about the waterfall.
  • From the man's room, head right, and use the Ladder to cross the islands and collect a Key. Head right again to enter a trap room. Avoiding the traps, make your way to the bottom door.
  • Here you must defeat all of the Vires and the resulting Keese that they become so that you can push the left block and continue on to the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

Boss fight against Gleeok
  • The boss is a two headed Gleeok. Each head must be stabbed until it starts to fly freely around the room. Once the head is free, it is still a threat, and can not be defeated. The only way to beat Gleeok is to destroy every one of the attached heads.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the fourth piece of the Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • Bombs are one screen to the west.
  • A cheap Shield is one screen to the east.
  • A woman selling Water of Life is two screens to the south, and one to the west.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 5

  • Obtain the Whistle.
  • Expand your Bomb carrying capacity.
  • Defeat Digdogger.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the fifth Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Advised Preparation[edit | edit source]

  • Use the ladder to collect the Heart Container at D-2 in section 2.
  • By now you should have twelve heart containers in total. Head to the cemetery, where at B-3, the Magical Sword can be found.

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

  • Ladder.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  1. To enter this dungeon, you must discover the secret to climbing to the top of the Lost Hills.
  2. From the entrance, go right and clear this room to obtain a Key. You may bomb the top wall to expose a passage to the man with information about this dungeon's boss's weakness.
  3. Enter the room above the entrance and defeat the Gibdos for another Key. You may bomb the left wall to provide yourself with a shortcut to the left which bypasses the Dodongos in step ??.
  4. If you enter the room above, you must face three Dodongos. Defeat them in the usual manner, either feeding them two bombs, or stunning them by exploding a bomb in their face. If you unlock the north door, you can obtain the dungeon's Map.
  5. From the Dodongo room, enter the left room, and obtain a Key. Then enter the room below and defeat the Gibdos. To access the room to the left, you must bomb the left wall.
  6. Enter the left room and defeat all of the Darknuts. When the room is clear, push the leftmost block aside and enter the stairwell. Take the passage, and you will arrive in the right top most room of the dungeon.
  7. From there, head left and defeat all of the Darknuts. When the room is clear, push the single block to reveal a stairwell that leads to the Whistle. Collect it and return to the right.
  8. Now head to the room below, and collect a Key. Bomb the right wall to discover a passage to a room where a man will add four Bombs to your bomb storage capacity for 100 rupees.
  9. Return through the underground passage, and back to the room with three Dodongos.
  10. From the Dodongo room, head right, and then above to collect another Key. Head up again and defeat the Dodongos to discover the Compass.
  11. From the compass room, head up and obtain a Key. Head left, and defeat the Gibdos to receive another Key.
  12. Head left once more and you'll encounter the Pols Voices. The top wall can be bombed to reveal a path to a man who is knowledgeable on the weakness of Pols Voice. However, this knowledge does not apply to the American version of this game.
  13. If you head left, you will encounter the boss. There is a room below the boss room that contains nothing but Gibdos.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is Digdogger. While large, Digdogger is invincible. You must collect the Whistle in this dungeon in order to defeat it. Blow the Whistle and it will shrivel up in to a tiny version of itself, which can be stabbed by your sword.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the fifth Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

Dungeon 5 is isolated, and as such, you may want to look at the supply points before heading to the dungeon.

  • A woman selling Water of Life is 4 screens west and 1 screen south of the Lost Hills.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 6

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Magic Wand.
  • Defeat the Gohma.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the sixth Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

  • Ladder.

  • Arrow.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  1. To enter this dungeon, you locate the entrance which is just east of the cemetery.

  5. Enter the room above and you will have two options. You can either enter the room above and face a three headed Gleeok. Or you may bomb the right wall which enables you to effectively bypass the Gleeok.
  6. In the room to the right of the Gleeok, you will discover the Map.
  7. From the map room, enter the room above and defeat the Wizzrobes. When the room is cleared, push the left block to reveal a stairwell that leads to the Magic Wand. The right wall of this room can be bombed.
  8. From the map room, the room immediately to the right contains a Key. Beyond this room, you can go up and bomb the left wall, or you can go left and walk through the above door, and you will encounter a man who shares a hint regarding lakes that do not contain fairies.
  9. From the map room once more, head down and collect the key if you haven't already. Head down again and defeat all of the Vires to proceed.
  10. Once the Vire room is cleared, enter the room to the right and defeat the Wizzrobes and Like-Likes. When this room is cleared, push the single block to reveal a staircase to an underground passage that leads to the upper right most room in the map.
  11. From here, enter the room below and obtain a Key. Then enter the room to the left.
  12. From this room, you may travel up or down. The boss is in the room above, while you will only encounter Wizzrobes at a dead end below.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is Gohma. Gohma's giant eye is it's weak point, but it is only vulnerable to one weapon: the bow and arrow. Fire an arrow at the eye when it is wide open and exposed to defeat it.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the sixth Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • A woman selling Water of Life is one screen south and one screen east.
  • From there, head one screen north and two screens east for replacement Bombs and Shields.
  • Loop southward to reach the place one eastward screen away to get Monster Bait. Cheaper Shields can be found here as well.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 7

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Red Candle.
  • Expand your Bomb carrying capacity.
  • Feed the hungry Goriya Goriyas.
  • Defeat Aquamentus.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the seventh Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

  • Whistle.
  • Ladder.
  • Monster Bait.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  1. This dungeon is larger and more complex than any of the previous dungeons. In order to proceed through this dungeon, you will need to bring Monster Bait along. It is also recommended that you bring a full supply of bombs and bomb every wall available in order to find all of the secret pathways that must be discovered in order to clear the dungeon.
  2. To enter this dungeon, use the information you have about secrets where faeries don't live. Locate the lake at D-1 in section eight, which does not contain a fairy. A few notes on the whistle will reveal this level's entrance.
  3. Many rooms close to the entrance contain rooms where you can obtain sets of four bombs.
  4. From the entrance, move one room up, and then as far to the right as you can to find a key, defeating a Digdogger along the way using the whistle.
  5. In order to proceed beyond the lower region of the dungeon, the top and left walls of the room above the entrance may be bombed to reveal passages that lead further in to the dungeon.
  6. From this room, head through the left passage, and then the room below to obtain another key.
  7. The top wall of the room that starts out dark, populated by Keeses and has a circular formation of blocks can be bombed to reveal a shortcut to the room which contains the Compass.
  8. Along the left side of the dungeon, the third room from the bottom contains three Dodongos. If you unlock the door above, you will find another man who will upgrade your bomb carrying capacity by four bombs for 100 rupees.
  9. From the bomb man's room, head down, then right, and up two rooms and you will discover a Digdogger. This Digdogger is more powerful than before, and when you use the whistle, it will shrivel up in to three separate little Digodggers instead of just one. The right wall may be bombed to expose a passage to a room with two Moldorms and a key.
  10. From the second Digdogger's room, enter the left room, and unlock the door above. Here you will find a Goriya that will do nothing but grumble, and will not allow you to pass. If you feed him the Monster Bait, he will disappear, allowing you to continue on.
  11. Above the hungry Goriya's room, you will find the Map. The wall above may be bombed to reveal a passage in to a room that contains ten rupees. The right wall of the rupee room may also be bombed.
  12. From the map room, enter the right room. In order to proceed, you must bomb the right wall.
  13. Enter through the right passage and defeat the Goriyas. When the room is clear, push the left most block aside to gain access to the stairwell. Down below, you will discover the Red Candle. When you return to the room, bomb the right wall.
  14. Enter through the right passage, and continue right until you encounter a third Digdogger. Like the second one, this one is stronger and shrivels in to three separate pieces. You must defeat all three to proceed to the room above.
  15. Enter the room above to discover three Dodongos. Bomb the right wall to reveal yet another passage that leads to a room with Bubbles and Wallmasters. This can be a deadly combination. Do not stand by a wall if you are stunned by a Bubble and can not draw your sword.
  16. In this room, you must defeat every single Wallmaster before you can push the center block along the right side of the room to reveal a stairwell. The stairwell leads to an underground passage that deposits you one room to the right of the hungry Moblin's room.
  17. When you arrive, defeat the Goriyas and bomb the right wall to gain access to the dungeon's boss.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is Aquamentus. The strategy now is exactly the same as for level one so you should have no problem dispatching it. Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue to the room to the right and obtain the seventh Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • There's a Fairy pool to the east.
  • From the dungeon, go one screen south, two screens east and two screens north to get a cheap Monster Bait. The cave just south of that provides a replacement Shield.
  • Two screens south and two screens east contain a woman selling Water of Life.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 8

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Book of Magic.
  • Obtain the Magic Key.
  • Defeat the four headed Gleeok.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the final Piece of Triforce.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Prerequisites[edit | edit source]

  • Red Candle or Blue Candle.
  • Bomb.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  1. To enter this dungeon, you must burn down the lone tree that blocks the pathway in the woods at B-4 in section two.
  2. From the entrance, head right and collect a key.
  3. Return to the entrance and head left. Defeat the Manhandla to open the door to the left. Enter that room and defeat all of the Darknuts and Gibdos. When the room is cleared, push the left block aside to enter the stairwell and find the Book of Magic.
  4. Return to the entrance, head up, defeat the Manhandla, and bomb the top wall in order to proceed through the dungeon.
  5. In the next room, and the two rooms to its left, you can obtain keys. The room to the right contains the Compass.
  6. Two rooms left of the compass room and one up, there is a blue Gohma which requires three arrows in its eye to kill. If you defeat it, the closed door above will open and you can receive a hint from a man regarding Spectacle Rock.
  7. Continue up through the dungeon until you encounter a room full of Blue Darknuts. When it is safe to do so, bomb the top wall. Go through the passage and you will have to fight another Manhandla who rewards you with the Map.
  8. Above the map room is another blue Gohma. You can bomb the left wall, or enter the top door, but you should enter the right door and defeat the Darknuts and Pols Voices inside. Push the leftmost block to descend the stairs and find the Magic Key.
  9. Return to the room full of blue Darknuts, and defeat them all so that you can enter the right room. Enter it and head down the stairs to enter an underground passage which leads to the west side of the dungeon. You can bomb the top wall here for a shortcut to the dungeon boss.
  10. Otherwise, head left and fight the red Darknuts, then head up again for a cryptic message about bombs from a man. Finally, head right to encounter the boss.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss of the dungeon is a four headed Gleeok. Other than the number of heads, the strategy to defeat this Gleeok is no different. Keep stabbing the attached heads until every one is disconnected.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue to the room above and obtain the final Piece of Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • A cheap Shield is two screens north.
  • Bombs are two screens east.

Underworld/Quest 1/Dungeon 9

Objectives[edit | edit source]

You should accomplish five objectives in this order:

  1. Get the Map.
  2. Obtain the Red Ring (it is more important than the map, but the map is on the way).
  3. Get the Compass.
  4. Obtain the Silver Arrows.
  5. Defeat Ganon, get the Triforce of Power and rescue Princess Zelda.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

File:LZ1 Dungeon 9 parts.png

To enter this dungeon, find the entrance at Spectacle Rock. Many of the rooms in this dungeon are unnecessary to enter, or have one way doors, so this walkthrough will focus strictly on the rooms that are necessary.

The dungeon can be divided into four parts. These are interconnected by underground passages only (except for a one-way door that sends back from part 3 to part 2).

Hints from the old men
  1. "Go to the next room": the room to the left conceals the stairwell to the next part; the only way to access it is to bomb the left wall in this room.
  2. "Eyes of skull has the secret": with reference to the in-game map, the room with the compass corresponds to one eye of the skull; when you get the compass, it shows that Princess Zelda is in the room corresponding to the other eye.
  3. "Patra has the map": by the time you're told this, you should already have defeated the Patra holding the map.

Get the map, Red Ring, and compass[edit | edit source]

Part 1
  • From the entrance head up one room where you might encounter a man who will prevent you from entering if you have not collected all eight pieces of the Triforce. If you have them, you may proceed and enter to the room above.
  • In the room with Zols and Like-Likes, bomb the left wall and enter the passage. Defeat the two red Lanmolas and push the leftmost block to enter the staircase to the first underground passage.
Part 2
  • You will arrive towards the top of the dungeon. Unlock the door to the right and fight the Wizzrobes.
  • Enter the room to the right and fight the Patras.
  • Enter the room below, full of Gels, and bomb the right wall. Go through the passage to find another Patra and obtain a Map.
  • From the map, bomb the top wall, go through the passage, and bomb the top wall again. Defeat all of the Wizzrobes, and push the leftmost block to access the staircase. Take the stairs and obtain the Red Ring.
  • Walk back to room S-2, bomb the bottom wall and enter the room below. Bomb the bottom wall again, and enter a dark room with Wizzrobes where you can obtain the Compass.

Obtain the Silver Arrows[edit | edit source]

Return through the bombed pathways two rooms above where you got the compass. Return to the room with the very first Patra (if you went for the ring). Unlock the door above and listen to the advice of the man within by bombing the left wall. Defeat all of the Wizzrobes in the left room, and push the left block to reveal a stairwell.

Part 3
  • Descend down the stairs through the second underground passage, and arrive towards the bottom of the dungeon. Defeat the Zols, unlock the left door, fight the Keeses, and go through the left door to encounter another Patra.
  • Defeat this Patra and push the leftmost block to access the stairs. Take this underground passage and you will arrive by the upper left corner of the dungeon. Bomb the north wall to reveal a passage and travel through it.
  • Defeat all of the Wizzrobes and push the central block along the right side to reveal of staircase. Take the stairs to find the vital Silver ArrowsFile:LOZ1 Silver Arrow.png which are needed to defeat Ganon.

Find Ganon[edit | edit source]

  • Return to the bottom room, and defeat all of the Wizzrobes in order to take the underground passage back to the Patra room. From the Patra room, head to the room above.
  • Defeat all of the Like-Likes to enter the room to the left. Defeat the Zols and unlock the door above. Defeat the Wizzrobes and unlock the next door above. Defeat the Wizzrobes here, and push the left most block to reveal a staircase underneath one of the traps. Trigger the trap and access the staircase.
Part 4
  • Take the underground passage, and arrive towards the top center of the dungeon. Bomb the left wall, kill all the enemies there and push the left block.
  • Now take the staircase down to the final underground passage, and arrive in a room with Patra eyes directly beneath Ganon. Defeat the Patra to open the door to Ganon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • Ganon appears briefly before turning invisible. He travels in small circles firing energy orbs at you. Stab in to the space where you predict that he will be, and if you succeed in hitting him, he will appear for a short while before continuing the pattern. If you hit him four times with the magic sword, you will stun him and he will change color. At this time, you must fire a silver arrow at him to finish him off.
  • Defeat him and recover the Triforce of Power from Ganon's corpse. Continue to the room above and put out the fires with your sword and rescue Princess Zelda.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • One screen left of the cave entrance would be a medicine woman.
  • You have to loop around the eastern path, but bombs are found two screens south. A cheap shield is a screen east from this shop but is further away.

Summary[edit | edit source]

This is all that can be collected before [[../../Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 1|Dungeon 1]], and it's clearly less equipment than in Quest 1:

  • 4 Heart Containers instead of 3
  • Wooden sword
  • Magical Shield instead of small shield
  • Blue Ring
  • Bombs and Blue Candle
  • Power Bracelet and Red Potion (difficult)

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 1

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Wooden Boomerang.
  • Beat Aquamentus.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the first Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Pre-requisites[edit | edit source]

None.

Dungeon Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

The entrance to this dungeon is found in the same place as the first dungeon in the first quest. For this dungeon, the middle section is optional, providing a spare key, some bombs and a map (which requires expending said bombs). This walkthrough will only cover the rooms necessary to clear the level.

  • From the entrance, enter the right room. Defeat the Goriyas here to obtain the Wooden Boomerang.
  • Bomb the top wall to reveal a passage. Go through the passage and defeat the Keeses. When the room is cleared, push the left most block to gain access to the underground passage.
  • Take the passage and you will arrive towards the top of the dungeon. Defeat the Wall Masters here and obtain a key to unlock the left door.
  • Travel left and defeat all of the blue Goriyas. Bomb the top wall to expose a path to the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is Aquamentus. You must strike him in the head six times with the Wooden Sword or three times with the White Sword. Time your strikes between the energy orbs that he emits from his horn. Only the Magical Shield will absorb the energy orbs. Link will receive damage if he tries to block them with the Wooden shield.
  • Defeat him to earn a Heart Container. Enter the room to the right to obtain the first Triforce piece.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • If you have a Ladder or Whistle, look for a medicine woman either one screen east and two screens north, or two screens east and one screen north.
  • Full healing can be found two screens east, and is accessed by following the southern detour.
    • From the fairy pool, one screen southeast sells bombs.
  • A Magic Shield may be purchased in the store southwest of the dungeon.

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 2

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Whistle.
  • Beat a two headed Gleeok.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the second Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

  • The entrance to this dungeon can be found where an important shop was once located during the first quest.
  • From the entrance, enter the room above and defeat all of the Gibdos to obtain a key. Enter the next room up.
  • You can continue up to the next room without fighting, but if you wish to return to the room below, you must defeat the Zols (and Gels if you don't have the White Sword) and push the left block.
  • Above the Zol room, defeat the Keeses and obtain a key. Continue on to the next room above.
  • Fight the Gibdos and enter the room above. You'll enter a room full of Keeses. Bomb the right wall and go through the passage to obtain a key, and return to the left. Clear the room of Keeses to open the door above, and enter it.
  • Defeat the Manhandla to obtain a key. Enter the room on the right.
  • Fight the Darknuts carefully, and unlock the door above. Go through the door and avoid the traps while fighting the Zols to obtain the map. Return to the room below with the Darknuts, and enter the bottom door.
  • Continue to the bottom of the corridor and push down against the wall. You will pass through the wall and arrive in an unmarked room on the map. Enter the stairwell in the middle of the room to find the Whistle.

In the second quest, the Whistle is more useful for finding secrets in the Overworld than it was in the first quest. However, its warp ability only brings you to the dungeon locations as found in the first quest, making it less useful to reach a specific dungeon.

  • Once you have the Whistle, leave the room by pushing against the left wall to pass through an invisible passage. Unlike the top wall, this passage is one way. Enter the room below and unlock the door to the right.
  • Defeat the enemies and obtain a key. If desired, you can bomb the bottom wall and go through the passage (thereby skipping the use of a key) and obtain the compass before returning to the room above. Enter the right doorway.
  • Fight the Darknuts in this room to obtain a set of four bombs. Travel through the door below and fight the Keeses to obtain a key. Enter the room below and clear the room of all the Zols to obtain another key and open the doors.
  • Enter the room below, and fight through the Gibdos to reach the stairwell. Take the stairs to the underground passage which leads you to a room along the upper right side of the dungeon.
  • Fight the Darknuts, and unlock the top door to reach the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is a two headed Gleeok. Each head must be stabbed until it starts to fly freely around the room. Once the head is free, it is still a threat, and can not be defeated. The only way to beat Gleeok is to destroy every one of the attached heads.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the second piece of the Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • Bombs are one screen south, and medicine is three screens south.
  • A fairy pool is one screen southwest.

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 3

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Magic Boomerang.
  • Beat three Dodongos.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the third Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Pre-requisites[edit | edit source]

None.

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

The entrance to this dungeon can be found where the entrance to the second dungeon used to be in the first quest. The walkthrough for this dungeon is broken up in to two distinct parts; getting the Magic Boomerang, and getting the Triforce. If you are getting the Magic Boomerang, you need to bring Monster Bait to feed the hungry Goriya. If you don't have Monster Bait, you can still complete the dungeon by collecting the key, and heading to the boss room.

  • From the entrance head to the room above, fight past the Goriyas, and enter the next room above. Fight the Ropes and obtain a set of bombs.
  • Enter the next room above, and defeat all of the blue Goriyas to obtain the map and open the doors above.
  • Enter the next room above and fight the sword throwing Stalfos to obtain a key.
  • Go through the door above and provide the grumbling Moblin with the Monster Bait to gain passage to room above.
  • Defeat the Goriyas in the top most room to obtain the Magic Boomerang.
  • Return to the room above the entrance and unlock the door to the right to fight the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

Triforce Room

This is the only dungeon in either quest whose boss room is not adjacent to the Triforce room.

  • The bosses of the dungeon are three Dodongos. Defeat them in the usual manner, either by feeding them two bombs, or blowing up a bomb in their face and stabbing them. Collect the Heart Container when you beat all of them.

Walkthrough (continued)[edit | edit source]

  • Unlock the door below. Hang out next to the wall and defeat all of the Wall Masters that come out. Collect the compass and push the center block along the right side to reveal a stairwell.
  • Take the stairs to the underground passage, and arrive at the bottom of the isolated section of the map.
  • Defeat all of the Goriyas in the room to open the door above and obtain the third piece of the Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • Replacement shields and Monster Bait are southeast of the entrance.
  • Bombs are north of the southeastern most point.

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 4

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Magic Book.
  • Upgrade your bomb carrying capacity.
  • Beat Digdogger.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the Raft after beating Digdogger but before getting the Triforce piece.
  • Obtain the fourth Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Pre-requisites[edit | edit source]

  • Power Bracelet
  • Whistle
  • 50 Rupee or Heart Container

Dungeon Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

The entrance to this dungeon can be found, not above the Lost Hills, but inside the very hills themselves. It is advisable to enter this dungeon with at least 150 rupees. The minimal amount is 50 rupees, required to pass through a room without losing a heart container. The extra rupees increase your bomb capacity.

  • This dungeon introduces separate red bubbles which will permanently prevent you from drawing your sword and blue bubbles which will restore that ability. If you touch a red bubble, you will have to find a room with blue bubbles if you want to continue using your sword. One such room is one room up and to the right of the entrance.
  • From the entrance, head to the left room. Defeat the Zols and Keeses to obtain a key, but avoid touching the red bubbles.
  • Return to the entrance and enter the top door. Now you must fight a Digdogger. Defeat it to open the door to the left.
  • Enter through the left door, and defeat the Darknuts and Pol Voices to obtain a compass.
  • Enter the room above. Fight past the Darknuts and unlock the door to the right. Go through the door and defeat the Aquamentus to open the door to the right.
  • Enter through the right door and defeat all of the monsters in this room. Push the left most block in the center row to reveal a stairwell that leads to the Magic Book.
  • Once you have the Magic Book, push against the top wall to walk through an invisible passage to a man who will sell you the ability to hold 4 more bombs in exchange for 100 rupees. The passage you came through is one way only.
  • When you are done, push against the left wall to discover another invisible passage. This one can be taken in both directions. If you defeat all of the Darknuts in this room, you will obtain a set of bombs.
  • Unlock the door to the left and defeat all of the blue Darknuts to obtain a key.
  • From this point, there are a couple of ways to proceed, but this walkthrough will cover a more thorough approach. Proceed through the top door and fight the Zols. Avoid the traps and enter through the next top door.
  • Defeat more Zols and obtain a set of bombs. The top wall may be bombed to reveal a passage, but walk through the right door instead.
  • In this room, all you can do is push the center block in the direction that you walk in. Do so and enter the bottom door.
  • Defeat all of the monsters in this room to obtain a key. Then bomb the right wall and collect the ten rupees. Return to the previous room and go through the top door.
  • Now push the center block up and bomb the right wall to reveal a passage. Walk through the passage and defeat the Dodongo to open the top door.
  • Go through the top door and defeat the blue Darknuts to obtain the map. Return to the room below, and through the bombed passage. Now push the center block left and proceed through the top door.
  • Defeat the Keeses and you will be rewarded with a key that you cannot yet reach unless you have gone ahead and collected the ladder from the sixth dungeon.
  • You can walk through an invisible passage along the left wall, but you can bypass that room and the hint room above it by bombing the top wall. You are forced to decide between giving up one heart container or 50 rupees in order to proceed to the room on the right. Never give up the heart container, so collect 50 rupees if you don't yet have that much and return here.
  • Enter through the right door and note the presence of the blue bubbles. Push the left block of the two center blocks to reveal a stairway to an underground passage. Return here if you touch the red bubbles on the other side of the passage.
  • Exit from the passage and avoid touching the red bubbles. Unlock the door above to encounter the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is a standard triple splitting Digdogger. Use the whistle and defeat it in the usual manner to obtain a Heart Container.

Walkthrough (continued)[edit | edit source]

  • Enter the door above the boss room to find the Triforce but do not collect it yet. Instead, walk around the Triforce wall and push against the top wall to walk through an invisible passage.
  • Defeat the Darknuts to open the door above. Go through and defeat the three Dodongos to open the door above.
  • Go through the door and defeat all of the Darknuts and Pol Voices in the room. When the room is clear, push the block that is located closest to the left door to reveal a stairwell. Take the steps to find the Raft.
  • Now you may return to the Triforce room and collect it. Keep in mind that the left doorway of the Raft room is a one way door. If you pass through it, you will not be able to return to the right.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • You can climb up the Lost hills to receive healing from a fairy.
  • Heading west three screens gives access to a medicine woman, provided you have a ladder.

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 5

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Bow.
  • Beat a three headed Gleeok.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the fifth Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Pre-requisites[edit | edit source]

  • Raft

Dungeon Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

To find this dungeon, launch your raft from the same dock that you launched from to find the fourth dungeon of the first quest. If you haven't yet already purchased some arrows, you may want to go buy some, though the only use you'll have for them in this dungeon is one Gohma, and defeating the Gohma will only give you a key. If you want to buy the arrows, from the dock, the nearest shop, although only one screen to the west, is only reachable by detouring one screen south, one screen west, and then two screens north - the shop, which is in the cave, sells arrows for 80 rupees.

  • From the entrance, go through the top door. Avoid the traps, defeat the Zols, and enter through the left door.
  • Avoid the traps and defeat all of the Like-Likes to obtain a blue rupee. Unlock the bottom door and go through.
  • Avoiding the red bubbles, fight the Wizzrobes and push against the left wall to walk through an invisible passage.
  • Defeat all of the Keese and collect the key and walk back through the right wall. Enter the stairwell to the underground passage that will lead you to the top of the dungeon.
  • Defeat all of the Wizzrobes, and then push on the center block along the left side to open the right door. Go through and avoid the blue Gohma for now since you don't have the equipment yet to beat it. Go through the bottom door.
  • Avoiding the red bubbles, proceed to the staircase and collect the Bow. Now return to the room above and defeat the Blue Gohma and collect a key.
  • Return through the left door and enter the stairwell to arrive back at the bottom of the dungeon. Return through the top door to the room with the traps and head through the left door.
  • Defeat all of the Vires and collect the map.
  • From the map room, proceed through the top door. Fight the Wizzrobes and proceed through the top door again.
  • Avoid the traps and fight the Wizzrobes and proceed through the right door.
  • The next room has a black floor with black Zols. You can only tell their position by their eyes. Defeat the Zols and collect the compass. Proceed through the top door.
  • Defeat the Wizzrobes and Like-Likes. As in the fourth dungeon, you can only obtain the key in this room if you have collected the ladder already from the sixth dungeon.
  • Proceed through the right door and defeat the Manhandla to open the top door and receive a blue rupee.
  • Go through the top door, and fight the Keese as you wind your way to the staircase. Take the stairs to an underground passage that leads to the room next to the boss.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The boss is a blue Ghoma. As before, Ghoma's giant eye is it's weak point, but it is only vulnerable to one weapon: the bow and arrow. Fire three arrows at the eye when it is wide open and exposed to defeat it.
  • Defeat it to earn a Heart Container. Continue on to the room above to obtain the sixth piece of the Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • A Magic Shield may be purchased for 90 rupees two screens east and two screens north from the dungeon.

  • Blue Candle
  • Ladder
  • Arrow
  • Bow
  • 50 Rupees or Heart Container

Dungeon walkthrough[edit | edit source]

To access this dungeon, you must first burn down a tree in A-4 of Section 2. Enter into A-4 from either the north or the east; burn the left-hand tree of the pair that is at the top of the column of trees dividing the area. Loop back around to access A-4 from the west side to gain entrance. However, you should never enter the dungeon without first collecting the Ladder — you risk becoming trapped and will either need to reset the game or use the second controller to access the save screen. In addition, you should have 50 rupees to complete the dungeon.

  • From the entrance, enter the left door to claim the compass and defeat the Zols.
  • Return to the entrance, head right, and fight past the Darknuts and Pols Voice and enter through the next right door.
  • Fight past more Darknuts and use the ladder to cross the stream while avoid contact with any red bubbles. Enter the right door.
  • Now you must defeat all of the Darknuts and Gibidos. When you have succeeded, push the block which is straight walk to the right from the left door to reveal a staircase. Take the stairs to an underground passage.
  • When you arrive, fight past the Keese and enter the bottom door. Defeat all of the Darknuts and Pols Voice and push the leftmost of the center blocks to reveal a stairwell. Take the stairs to find the Red Candle.
  • Return to the room above and defeat all of the Keese in order to push the left most block and gain access to the underground passage and use it to return.
  • Once you're back, go through the right door and you'll encounter a Manhandla. You must defeat it in order to push the left most block and open the doors. Proceed through the right door.
  • Fight your way past the Darknuts and proceed through the top door. Defeat all of the Darknuts in this room to obtain the map. Continue through the top door.
  • Defeat all of the blue Darknuts to open the door above and obtain a blue rupee. Enter the top door and fight past the blue Darknuts to the door above. You only need to defeat all of them if you intend to return through the bottom door.
  • You'll encounter a blue Gohma which you must fire three arrows in to defeat. When you defeat it, the door above will open. Go through and defeat all of the Keese and push the left most block to reveal a staircase to an underground passage.
  • Take the underground passage and arrive in the room full of blue Darknuts. You only need to defeat them if you intend to push the leftmost center block so you can return through the underground passage. Go through the top door.
  • Push the center block, and head right, but only if you have 50 rupees. You will encounter a man who forces you to leave behind one heart container or 50 rupees. Leave the rupees and enter the door below.
  • Defeat all of the Darknuts, and push the block that is the left most block in the center (fourth) row of the room to reveal a staircase to yet another underground passage.
  • Take the passage, and when you arrive, fight past the Darknuts and Bubbles, and unlock the door on the left and proceed through.
  • Defeat all of the blue Darknuts to open the left door and also obtain a set of bombs. Proceed through the left door to fight the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Magic Key.
  • Increase the number of bombs that you can carry by four.
  • Beat three Dodongos.
  • Obtain a Heart Container.
  • Obtain the eighth Triforce piece.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

Pre-requisites[edit | edit source]

  • Ladder
  • Bomb
  • Monster Bait

Dungeon Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

To find the entrance to this dungeon, you must bomb along the cliff wall to the north of the stream in Section 3. You will need to use the ladder, and you will find the entrance in C-2, about a fourth to a third of the way in from the left side. To complete this dungeon, you will need to purchase Monster Bait.

  • From the entrance, head through the top door and you'll enter a room full of red Bubbles. Doing your best to avoid them, push the left most block to reveal a staircase to an underground passage. Take the stairs and use the passage.
  • If you do happen to get hit, go through the underground passage anyway. When you arrive, instead of fighting the Goriyas, simply go right to find blue Bubbles. You'll have to push the left block to find an underground passage that brings you a few rooms up from where you started. Just head south to return to the red Bubble room and try again.
  • Fight the Goriyas and push against the south wall to find an invisible passage. You encounter three Dodongos. Unlock the door below and go through.
  • When you enter the room, defeat as many of the Wall Masters as you can without getting hit by a red Bubble. If you do get hit, get away from the wall and touch the blue Bubble. When the Wall Masters are defeated, push the middle block along the right column to reveal a stairwell that leads to the Magic Wand.
  • After you get the wand, return to the Dodongo room and proceed through the right door. Fight the Goriyas and Keese, and bomb the bottom wall. Defeat all of the Goriyas in the room to obtain the map. Return to the room above.
  • Defeat all of the Goriyas and Keese so you can push the block closest to the left door to reveal a stairwell to an underground passage. Take the passage, and you will return one room above the red Bubble room.
  • Defeat the Ropes and enter the door above. Fight the Goriyas and enter through the next door above.
  • You will encounter a Digdogger. You can defeat it in order to push the left block that reveals a one way underground passage that can serve as a significant shortcut, but taking it will mean missing the Magic Key. Proceed through the top door. If you do decide to take the shortcut, go through the passage and push against the top wall to go through an invisible passage. You may need to fight all the Keese first, though. After that, jump down to the step marked with three asterisks.
  • You will encounter a hungry Moblin. Feed it Monster Bait in order to proceed through the top door.
  • Avoiding the traps, defeat all of the Keese in order to obtain the compass. Proceed through the top door.
  • Defeat all of the blue Goriyas to open the door to the left and obtain a key. Head through the left door. Defeat all of the blue Goriyas here to open the doors as well. Head through the left door.
  • You encounter another Digdogger. I only recommend defeating it if you have less than 100 rupees since you earn a blue rupee for it. Bomb the left wall to reveal a passage, and go through.
  • Carefully make your way to the locked door on the left and unlock it. You do not need to defeat all of the Wall Masters here unless you need bombs for the Dodongos in the next room. Go through the left door.
  • Defeat the three Dodongos to open the door to the left. Enter it and avoid the red Bubbles. The key is primarily a distraction that you should only collect if you have none. Push the leftmost center block and take the stairs to the next underground passage. Don't worry if you get hit with the red Bubbles, there's a blue Bubble on the other side.
  • Watch out for Wall Masters as you proceed to the left door to unlock it. Defeat all of the Stalfos and push the left block in the center (fourth) row to reveal a stairwell. Take the stairs to locate the Magic Key.
  • Return to the right and, avoiding the Wall Masters again, head through the bottom door. Push the center block down and proceed to the left.
  • Dispatch the Ropes in the room. The block here can be pushed to reveal a staircase to an underground passage, but there is essentially no reason to take it if you have the Magic Key, as all you find is another key and be forced to repeat much of the dungeon. Instead, push against the bottom wall to find an invisible passage.
  • Defeat all of the Goriyas and Keese for a blue rupee. Enter the right door and walk through the corridor, fighting past the Keese, and unlock the right door.
  • Defeat all of the blue Goriyas in the room to obtain a set of bombs. Then push the left most block to gain access to the stairwell. Take the stairs to the underground passage.
  • You will arrive one room beneath the boss, but first defeat the Moldorms and bomb the bottom wall to reveal a passage. Take the passage and defeat the Goriyas to obtain a blue rupee. Go through the bottom door.
  • Defeat the Aquamentus to open the left door. Proceed to the left, and you'll enter a room with Bubbles and Wall Masters. Avoiding the red Bubbles, kill all of the Wall Masters, and then push the center block along the right column to open the left door.
  • Enter through the left door to find a man who will enhance your bomb carrying capacity by four bombs in exchange for 100 rupees. When you're done, return all the way back to the room below the boss. Unlock the top door and proceed to encounter the boss of the dungeon.

Boss[edit | edit source]

  • The bosses of the dungeon are three Dodongos. Defeat them in the usual manner with bombs. Either feed them two bombs, or explode a bomb in their face and stab them.
  • Defeat them to collect a Heart Container. Then enter the room above to find the final piece of the Triforce.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • A medicine woman is one screen west.
  • A replacement shield and monster bait can be purchased two screens west, one screen south, and one screen west.
    • From there, purchase extra bombs one screen west (after a southern loop).

Underworld/Quest 2/Dungeon 9

Objectives[edit | edit source]

  • Obtain the Red Ring.
  • Obtain the Silver Arrow.
  • Defeat Ganon.
  • Retrieve the Triforce of Power.
  • Rescue Princess Zelda.

Walkthrough[edit | edit source]

The entrance to this dungeon has been moved away from Spectacle Rock, to a very remote corner of Hyrule. Bomb the middle of the north wall of A-1 in Section 7.

  • From the entrance head up one room where you might encounter a man who will prevent you from entering if you have not collected all eight pieces of the Triforce. If you have them, you may proceed and enter to the room above.
  • Fight the Zols and avoid the traps. Push against the right wall to discover an invisible passage. Walk through the corridor, fighting the Keese along the way, and push against the right wall to find another invisible passage.
  • Fight the Wizzrobes and bomb the top wall to reveal a passage. Go through the passage and defeat the Patra in the next room to obtain the map. Then push against the left wall for an invisible passage.
  • Defeat all of the Wizzrobes and push the block to reveal a stairwell that leads to the Silver Arrow. Collect the arrow and return. (If you're desperate for a blue rupee, you can bomb the bottom wall, and defeat all of the Keese in the room to collect the rupee, then come back.)
  • Push against the top wall for an invisible one way passage. Avoid the red Bubbles and push the left block to reveal a stairwell to an underground passage. Take the passage and you will arrive one room to the left of the entrance. There is a blue Bubble in this room if you were hit by a red one.
  • Bomb the top wall and proceed through the revealed passage. Defeat the blue Lanmola to open the left door and obtain a set of bombs. Go through the left door and fight past the Like-Likes, while avoiding the traps, and proceed through the left door.
  • Defeat the Vires to obtain a blue rupee, and unlock the top door. Proceed through the door and fight the Keese. Unlock the top door and head through.
  • Push the center block up, and bomb the left wall. Go through the passage and immediately turn around and go back to avoid getting hit by a red Bubble. Push the block right and head through the top door.
  • Avoid the traps and fight the Wizzrobes. Proceed through the right door. Fight the Wizzrobes and bomb the bottom wall to reveal a passage.
  • Take the bottom passage and defeat all of the Zols to obtain a compass. Only return through the passage above as the rest are one way. When you get back to the room above, bomb the top wall and proceed through that passage.
  • Fight the blue Wizzrobes and unlock the right door. Proceed through and fight past the Wizzrobes and Like-Likes, and enter through the top door. You'll encounter a man who tells you to "go to the next room." Push against the left wall to find an invisible passage.
  • Avoid the traps and fight past the Like-Likes and enter the left door. Fight past the Wizzrobes and enter the top door.
  • You can defeat the Patra now or wait until you come back to the room. Push against the left wall to find an invisible passage. Defeat the blue Lanmolas and push the left block to reveal a staircase. Take the stairs to find the Red Ring. When you get it, push against the right wall to return to the Patra room.
  • Defeat the Patra if you haven't yet and push the left block to reveal a staircase to a hidden passage. You will arrive on the opposite side of the dungeon in a room full of Wizzrobes. Bomb the right wall to reveal a passage.
  • Go through the passage, and defeat the Patra to open the door to the right. Proceed through it, to encounter the boss of the dungeon. If you are not prepared to fight Ganon, push against the top wall to find a one way invisible passage and push the block you find inside to reveal another underground passage.

  • Defeat it and recover the Triforce of Power from Ganon's corpse. Continue to the room above and put out the fires with your sword and rescue Princess Zelda.

Resupply[edit | edit source]

  • Two screens east is a medicine woman, who can sell you potions.
  • Two screens east and one south of that is a shop that sells replacement shields.
