Zombies are Minecraft's most common mob. Fortunately, they are easy to kill one at a time. In large numbers, they are very dangerous. Caution advised.

Abilities and strengths/weaknesses

Undead

This mob is undead, and takes additional damage from weapons with the smite enchantment. This mob is healed by potions of harming and damaged by potions of healing.

Sunlight: burn

This mob burns in sunlight unless it is wearing a helmet or has the "Fire Risistance" buff.

Description

Zombies may not be incredibly dangerous, but have many secrets. They try to break down doors, and on hard difficulty actually succeed to break wooden doors.

If they find a turtle egg, they will attempt to smash it by standing on it.

Zombies hate villagers and attack them on a moment's notice. If the zombie kills the villager, there is a chance the villager will turn into a zombie.

Strategies

Zombies sometimes spawn in larger amounts. When this happens, keep them in single-file to make killing all of them easier.

Siege

At midnight of large villages, there is a one-in-ten chance that a zombie siege will occur. In zombie sieges, zombies will spawn in large numbers and attack the villagers.

Variants

There are more than one type of Zombie.

Drowned spawn underwater and sometimes have tridents. They don't drop iron, but may drop gold instead. They won't drop potatoes or carrots. They may drop a nautalus shell or trident. If a normal zombie is underwater for 30 seconds, it becomes a drowned.

Husks spawn in desert and badland biomes. They don't burn in sunlight. They will inflict the "Hunger" debuff for 30 seconds if it hits you. Husks turn to normal zombies if they are underwater for 30 seconds.

Zombified Villagers are what happens if a villager dies to a zombie. They can be restored back to a villager if you throw a splash potion of weakness at one and feed it a golden apple. This can take up to a munite, but you can speed this up by placing iron bars and/or a bed nearby. Remember to cage them in so that they don't die from another zombie after being restored.
