Authors list

There are many monsters in the world of MapleStory. The most dangerous monsters live deep in dungeons. Harmless monsters tend to stay by towns. Maple Island is one of the places that has very few monsters and are mostly very weak. Higher level monsters live in Victoria Island, but more dangerous monsters live closer to the center (Dungeon) of the island. Ossyria mainly has high level monsters as well as three major bosses.

Items, leftovers, and Mesos[edit | edit source]

After killing a monster, Mesos or monster leftovers (ETC. items) may be dropped sometimes. However, the monster may also drop something rare (infrequently of course), such as an equipment, which can be worth a lot. The mesos dropped by a monster is varied, and the range varies with the monster (and is usually, but not always, somewhat porpotional to the level of the monster, so you will find that in SOME circumstances monsters of same level drops the same range of mesos), the maximum value usually being 1.5x the minimum value.

  • MP: 40
  • EXP: 0
  • JMS EXP: -
Capable of doing light-medium damage and drops Birthday Candles/Birthday Presents, which may be commonly dropped or hardly ever, depending on the player's luck (not in game LUK). This monster is very commonly found. Found in lower-level areas such as the areas between the Victoria Island towns. Purely for quest reasons, as it gives no EXP, or mesos. Makes a squeaky sound when hit. May be a little frustrating to kill for players under level 30 because of its high defense and attack, even for a low leveled monster. Coolie Zombie

Undead

  • Level: 57
  • HP: 4,500

  • EXP: 190
  • JMS EXP:
Considered one of the best leveling spots for all classes lvl 60 to 80. Even though 80 maps are available (4 maps on 20 channels), the zones are almost always full on the popular servers. It is a long and dangerous walk to The Forest of Dead Trees (without Dead Mine scrolls), so those looking for a faster/cheaper alternative, take a look at Hectors. Zombies rarely drop anything of worth (which is more oweing to the fact that so many people hunt them, actually), but the exp rate more than makes up for it. Tackle them as low as lvl 55 if you've got good equips, or even as low as 50 if you've got godly equips. To get there, go to the lvl 50+ zone, and keep walking. You'll get there eventually.

A much more powerful Werewolf, able to summon its lower brethren, and sporting a resistance to ice-based attacks... at the expense of a fire-based weakness. However, much as a Werewolf has a high weapon defense, a Lycanthrope has a high magic defense. A powerful Fire Wizard/Mage, however, can handle one without much trouble. Make sure to be careful of its claw attack though; use the same methods to avoid it as you would on a Werewolf! Is one only of the only two non-boss monster known to drop Ilbi throwing stars. It is also the only known monster to drop the extremely rare Blue Screamer, a level 80 2-handed sword (which is actually worth more than Ilbis).

  • JMS EXP:
The dark clone of Dances with Balrog. In order to advance as a Crusader, Knight (White Knight in MapleSEA and Global), or Dragon Knight, a warrior must challenge this monster when above level 70 and defeat it. Has a powerful attack that only works melee. While it's hard to avoid in battle since a Warrior needs to go close as well, if you need to heal or re-add enchantment, you can just run away from the clone and he won't be able to hurt you at any distance. He is also able to cast Blind, striking at a warrior's weakness of lower accuracy and hurting a warrior's chances to hit the boss

Summons Tauromacis

  • Level: 80

  • JMS EXP:
The dark clone of Grendel the Really Old. In order to advance as a Mage or Priest, a magician must challenge this monster when level 70 or above and defeat it. Uses 3rd Job Mage skills, such as Explosion. Slowest attacking clone and an easy fight for mages, since it cannot teleport, while they can (teleporting at the right moment negates Grendel's attacks). It can also seal however, blocking all of a magician's ability to fight.

The dark clone of Athena Pierce. In order to advance as a Ranger or Sniper, a bowman must challenge this monster when level 70 or above and defeat it. • Level: 108

  • MP: 300
  • EXP: 4,100
  • JMS EXP:
A medium speed monster. If you're in the map Thanatos automatically attacks. Sometimes the rewards are extremely bad. Beware, it can inflict almost any status ailment but poison, and its damage can top 3k. It does have one weakness; if you stand at its left it can only use its ice attack, and at its right it can only use curse and darkness, making it a choice target for priests that can bombard it with holy spells from its right. Hunted by higher-level Dragon Knights for the level 90 spear Fairfrozen (Not for global version). this monster is resistant to ice and therefore it does NOT freeze.

This monster is slow but if you go close to it,it bangs it weapon on you and could change it weapons to Axe and Sword. The sword is capable of stunning its victim. Its attacks have a range on the ground, but can be dodged by jumping(similar to the way you can avoid a Yeti's earthquake), provided that you are not underneath its arms when it swings. Freezable, so it is a far easier monster to kill for those with a freezing move. Drops the level 88 wand Magicodar (Not for global version).

  • JMS EXP: 2,225,000
One of the most annoying bosses in jMS. This boss is only located at the Buddha Statue map in Jipang, and has a bunch of Moth Princesses guarding it. Whats annoying about this boss is that you cannot take a breather, and there is basically no safe platform there to recharge your stats before fighting it again. Also the boss is weak to lightning, so Ice/Lightning Mages could be some help, but the boss is mainly for melee type classes, namely White Knight.

An evil Necromancer which resides at the Throne of Sharenian Castle. It can summon Gargoyles, Mist Knights and has a lightning attack that can bring your HP and MP to 1. It also can use its mini reapers to do 3.7k damage at the spots its summoned at (Notified by a skull on the ground), has a 1.5k fire attack, has a Darkness and Seal skill, and has a healing skill which heals the Statues and itself. It is supported with two Lion Statues and two Knight Statues each with their own skills which makes this boss challenging for low levels.

  • EXP: 596,000
  • JMS EXP:
A steady speed monster. Papalatus occasionally retreats inside its clock, which lets it regain HP. It is capable of stunning, doing a lightning attack, and using Fallen One to reduce your HP/MP to 1, though arguably the most annoying skill it possess is Dispel, which removes all your beneficial enchantments (M Guard, Rage, Haste, Bless, et cetera). For a magician this move is often fatal.

After Papulatus is separated from its ride, it starts to zoom around at a VERY fast speed, but seems unable to conjure any attacks other than its physical attack. It's still fairly fatal though, doing around 5000 damage that is enough to OHKO an archer and hermit (Chief Bandits can use Meso Guard to get around that). Like Jr Boogie however, it can't hit you if you crouch.

Recommended to take this arm out ASAP because this arm causes status inflictions. A lot of players died at Zakum because of this arm. Probably one of the more threatening arms to magicians, along with the physical attack arm. However, if you wish to take a break from Zakum, this would be the ideal arm to kill last because this arm does not reduce your hp nor heals like Zakum's Arm 6.
