  2. Although Ilex aquifolium is not listed as naturalized in New York or most of the Northeast, it is listed as present in "forests and borders of swamps in areas of habitation" in the adjacent state of Massachusetts,[1] and it is cultivated in suitable parts of New York as an ornamental tree.
