Banana cream is a milk-based dessert. It is based on Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management, which is public domain.
Ingredients[edit | edit source]
- 2 oz (57 g / ½ cup) cornstarch
- 1 quart (950 ml / 4 cups) milk
- 2 oz (57 g / ¼ cup) caster sugar
- 2 egg yolks, beaten
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 bananas, thinly sliced
Procedure[edit | edit source]
- Mix the cornstarch smoothly with a little milk to form a paste.
- Put the remaining milk into a pan with the sugar. When boiling add the cornstarch paste, and boil for about 10 minutes.
- Let the mixture cool a little, then add the beaten egg yolks, and stir until they thicken.
- Add the vanilla, the bananas. When cool, pour into the prepared mould.
- Chill for a few hours to set.
