Ofe awa is a Nigerian soup made with very simple ingredients. It is especially eaten by the Nkanu people.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

Procedure[edit | edit source]

  1. Boil the awa leaves in a separate pot for about 10 seconds to remove the bitter taste. Drain, remove excess water, and set aside.
  2. Blend the crayfish, uziza, habanero pepper, yellow pepper, and ogiri into a smooth paste. Transfer to a clean pot.
  3. Add the beef, dryfish, and stockfish to the pot. Wash the mixture from the blender, and pour the water into the meat.
  4. Season with salt, and seasoning cube. Bring to a boil, and let simmer.
  5. Stir in the palm oil, then the ground ogbono. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Stir in the awa leaves, and remove from the heat.
  7. Serve with semovita, eba, wheat, or any swallow of your choice.
