Y chromosome, one of the allosomes, is one of the two chromosomes that belongs to the XY sex determination system, which determine the sex for most mammals, including humans. In mammals, the Y chromosome contain the SRY gene that trigger the development of testes, which determine the male trait. In humans the Y chromosome contain 60 million base pairs. The genes in Y chromosome can only be pass on by males in parental generation to males in filial generation, that is from father pass onto sons. Hence, in Y chromosome the genealogy of genes is kept. The study of Y-DNA is currently used in the studies of family histories.
