Yam porridge, popularly known as asaro, is a delicious Nigerian dish made from yam. Among the Yoruba people, it is popularly consumed with a pepper mixture. The dish can be eaten for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner. It is also a party favorite.

Procedure[edit | edit source]

  1. Rinse the diced yam, and transfer to a clean pot.
  2. Blend your fresh pepper, tomatoes, onions, and crayfish into a smooth paste. Add the paste to the pot with the yams.
  3. Add some palm oil and a small amount of groundnut oil. Season with salt and seasoning cube to taste.
  4. Cook the yam on medium-high heat until soft.
  5. Use a wooden spoon to stir the yam over low heat until the entire mixture has thickened.
  6. Add the cooked meat or fish if using.
  7. Serve.
