Cranberry sauce is a jelly or a jam made by cooking cranberries, sugar, and often other ingredients together. Many, if not most, Americans are more familiar with the canned cranberry sauce which is a clear, solidified, jelly that is often valued for the property of maintaining the shape of the can in which it is packaged.

The fruit will generally come apart when vigorously boiled, so there is no need to crush or puree it when a jam-style cranberry sauce is desired. Cranberry sauce can be made from cranberries and sugar alone.
