[edit] Background

Tuning in to French radio stations I have found the most accessible material is the football coverage. Far preferable to programmes on French politics or chat about French TV celebrities. Along with the massive football coverage on-line, it strikes me as a valuable but neglected resource for language education. The colourful vocabulary makes most ordinary French textbooks seem quite pedestrian in comparison. That's why I've started my first Wikibook French_For_Football

In this I think I have found some virgin territory where it is still possible to do something that hasn't been done to death 100 times already. Online publishing enables a far more individualised approach to language learning, and is bound to expand in future. So, for writers with even a modest level of proficiency such as me, the time to contribute is right now - before the real experts pile in and take over.

[edit] Credits

The original "Lecturer in Recent Runes" is an obscure member of staff at the Unseen University on the Discworld. He is often found at supper with his colleague, the Chair of Indefinite Studies. I'd use both names myself, except that might be called sockpuppetry.

[edit] Doppelgangers

I post quite often on Wordreference.com.

I am not a registered Last.fm listener.

I do not write about Singaporean cuisine.

[edit] Quotes

"Using OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office is like eating organic food instead of conventional. It is not the experience, or the expense, or the convenience that matters. It is the knowledge that you are a better person for so doing." Thank you, Verity Stob.
