| Days/Time | 15/16-Feb-2011 During exhibition opening hours |

This year at RMOUG, get hands-on experience with Oracle RAC. Hang out in the exhibition hall with the experts from the RAC SIG and Pythian and get an 11gR2 RAC cluster database running inside virtual machines on your own laptop. You can drop in for few hours during the conference between the sessions or spend there the whole day setting up the environment and running through the labs.
To get the most out of this experience, we recommend that you bring a USB-powered external hard drive with 100G of free space or have an SSD with appropriate space on your laptop. You do need your laptop to set it up - not just hard-drive to copy. The labs are designed for Windows-based laptops but we will assist Mac OS X and Linux users as well. H/w requirements are on racattack.org and you can also start going via laptop preparation steps at home to save time at the conference.

As part of Oracle User Group Norway's Spring Seminar 2012 (http://www.ougn.no/spring-seminar-2012) you will have opportunity to get hands-on experience building an Oracle RAC database using virtual machines on your own laptop with help from experts including Martin Bach (co-author of "Pro Oracle Database 11g RAC on Linux"). You will be welcome to spend as much time as you would like, or as little as you can spare. We'll help you get started, explain step-by-step or troubleshoot what's gone wrong.

This year at Oracle OpenWorld, get hands-on experience with RAC! (A key part of Exadata.) Hang out at the OTN Lounge with experts from the IOUG RAC SIG and get an 11gR2 RAC cluster database running inside virtual machines on your own windows-based laptop. Experiment boldly - if you make a mistake then you won't have to start over; we can "reset" your virtual machines to any point in the labs. To get the most out of this experience, we recommend that you bring a USB-powered external hard drive with 100G of free space - you can buy one online for about $40. [edit] To Do Pre-Conference
- Update DVD autobuilder script to get patchsets, test
- Update jumpstart scripts to prompt for dest drive if flag is set in config, test
- Run-through labs to test online tutorials, test ext hd and create jumpstart images
[edit] Materials Needed for Conference
- Three external USB-powered hard drives pre-loaded with jumpstart images [Jeremy has started this]
- Cool graphic to print-out and attach physically to drives would be nice
- Large banner to hang over table
- Need approval from OOW staff (Jeremy/Alex currently corresponding)
- Jeremy has created basic images for promotion, can possibly use one of these
- Maybe:
- Poster with basic getting-started instructions and pre-reqs, can attach to white-board provided by OOW
- Few extra external USB-powered hard drives which can be handed out at-cost to a few people who didn't bring one
- Few physical printed handbooks for people who prefer this over the online version
[edit] What Is Being Provided by the Conference
All of these details are tentative, naturally. There are no contracts involved... just goodwill. Please be sensitive and careful when posting any information from private email correspondences.
- Currently planned location - in the OTN Lounge next to Moscone Center, near the opening to the Howard street tent (where people will be having lunch, etc)
- Currently anticipate getting:
- table (drawing shows 10 chairs around a 60 inch table) - we are also right next to several sofas, though these don't belong to us by any means
- whiteboard
- power
- wireless internet access should be available
- Still waiting to hear whether we can hang a banner saying something like "RAC Attack / IOUG RAC SIG"
