Dear Topher, I really love your thrill in theatre, since I share that passion with you. My question for you is, how do you plan on integrating subjects within your high-school classroom, without overstepping the bounds of your fellow teaching staff? Do you mean that you will discuss and use examples from different subjects, or do you mean that you will teach two different subjects within your classroom? Looking forward to your reply! Well, I plan on reinforcing what my fellow teahcers have already taught. Let me give you an example:

"Topher: So today we're going to learn about set design. Each of you is going to design a set for one scene form the science fiction play by Ray Bradbury, The Veldt, that we read last week. Here's the challenge...you can not have any supernatural effects as part of your design. Are there any questions?

Sally Student: So like the mechanic playroom can't be activated by reading your mind?

Topher: Right, there has to be like a switch board or a circuit switch that has to be manually flipped in order to turn it on. All of the elements of your design must be real in the scientific world as we know it now.

45 MINUTES LATER

Topher: How's everybody doing? Can I help anyone with anything?

Stephen Student: I can't seem to get this to fit right.

Topher: Well think back to geometry. You want your corner to be 90 degrees, right?

Stephen Student: Right.

Topher: And you have 2 walls right? So in order for them to fit perfecty it has to be cut at a 45 degree angle."

So It's not that I would be overstepping my boundaries, I would simply be reinforcing what the students ahve already learned and by so doing, help them retain the information better!

Thanks for your posting! Cjone123 (talk) 16:58, 27 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Topher Allen,
I love that you are wanting to teach theater! I come from a small town where the arts are shunned particularly Theather. I dabbled a bit in drama at school but was never really able to be a part of it (as i was a band geek and time didn't permit). The arts are being taking out of schools more and more when they should be implemented more often.
As for your philosophy of teaching, I completely agree. Learning should be a hands on, interactive activity in which both the teacher and the student are involved and learning. Good luck with your future endevors. To find one more person still pursing the arts makes me smile. :) Lcars003 (talk) 17:37, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
