My Life:

I am many things to many people. I am a wife, a friend, a maid, a driver, a seamstress, a chef, a sister, a nursery teacher at church,a student, and most importantly I am a MOM! My name is Penny Britton and I am a returning student after many years on break. I have three wonderful children and the most awesome husband imaginable. My children are Jerry, who is 17; Ryan, who is 9, and Kathryn (my princess, we call her Katey), is 5. We have a chocolate lab named Buddy and he lives up to his name, he is everyones bud. And then there is my husband Paul. We have been married for almost 13 years and been friends for about 30 years. He has encourgaed me to come back to school and get my teaching degree for K-6. He has made many sacrifices for me to quit my job to become a teacher, which has been my lifelong dream.

My teaching philosophy

I beleive that a teacher needs to want to be a teacher. I love when teachers get involved with the kids in school and if necessary out of school. A student comes to school, looking for acceptance, love, encouragement, and knowledge. It will be hard to give them all of what they need, but I intend to do my very best to accomplish this. I think teachers need to evaluate each student on their abilities to accomplish the requirements. If a child can do the math problem, what difference does it make if he does 10 or can only get through 1? He still has learned the process. I plan to give each child a smile everyday and at least one encouraging word. I also will expect my students to listen and to try their best. If they are truly giving all they have to try and learn, that is all I have the right to ask of them. Sometimes, the child you think has no hope is the child that needs you the most. I hope I can keep my focus on that and not overlook someone because of what others say or think of them.
