This book is currently a userspace draft.

The United States Immigration Law book provides an explanation of the structure of the laws of the United States relating to citizenship, nationality, immigration, residence, and permission to work. Though the book does not assume existing legal education, it does aim to describe the subject in a fairly high level of detail and may not be suitable for readers who need a quick explanation of a particular concept.

The main goals of the book are to enable the reader to:

  • understand the structure and modern history of US immigration law;
  • understand the types of benefits and statuses one may hold obtain the law;
  • understand the immigration obligations of individuals and employers;

This book is not intended as an instruction manual for filling out immigration forms, nor is it intended as legal advice to you. Be sure to consult with a qualified immigration law practitioner. This book is not intended as a practice manual for attorneys, and may not discuss all possible challenges or arguments that could be raised in any particular case. This book will also not extensively cover historical provisions of law that have become obsolete or no longer in active use.
