Hello future shapers of the next generation!!

About Me[edit | edit source]

Hello my name is Amy and I am 26 years old. I currently live in Virginia Beach with my boyfriend Zeib and our dog Maddox. I am an Assistant Director at a Huntington Learning Center where I have learned many different things from my teachers. It was my teachers at HLC that convinced me that I would be a great elementary teacher. So after some minor threats from my employees I looked into ODU to get my teaching license. This is my first education class and already I am realizing that I already have some knowledge base.

Education[edit | edit source]

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Psychology from Christopher Newport University. While attending CNU I was actively involved in the Greek system as a member of the Phi Mu Fraternity. I am still very active as an Alumna member now. I enjoy school and have always said if I could get paid to be a student for the rest of my life I totally would! I look forward to getting into the classroom and continuing my own education with a Master's. One step at a time though...

Teaching Philosophy[edit | edit source]

My teaching philosophy is simple and positive. Every child can learn if people dedicate time for them and are the postive light in their lives. Unfortunately, since I work at Huntington Learning Center I do see a lot of children who have been left behind in their classrooms and their parents have given up hope. I provide an encouraging word, positive reinforcement and some 1 on 1 time to these children and slowly but surely they move on up their percentile ranks! So, in the classroom I believe teachers should be the positive force in their students lives. Those people who are the ones encouraging their students to try new things, think differently, and work independently. By building confidence in our students I believe they are more likely to try new things, and discover new things all along the way. I love your philosophy. Simple but classic. Many times parents and schools give up on children instead of creating new ideas to reach them. I like your realistic point of view.Egarr008 (talk) 22:26, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello Amy!!! I am glad to read that you enjoy school and I believe that the love of school and education are characteristics of a great teacher. Your teaching philosophy really hit the mark especially when you said the terms "dedication and positive light." I believe you will make a great teacher and that the students who are in your class will truly be motivated to learn. Good luck in your future.Tbrim001 (talk) 23:15, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
