[edit | edit source]Trial Neopost Machine
[edit | edit source]

Neopost approached the Post Office on 23rd June 1925 for permission to put 25 machines into service for a few days trial with varying customers, these machines being identified by the prefix "X" in the M#.
In subsequent communications it was agreed that the letters "T.N.M." (Trial Neopost Machine) would be shown in the bottom of the townmark, thus saving the need to change the townmark when machines were transferred to different postal districts for trial by other companies.
On 21st November 1925, the Post Office agreed to the arrangement on an experimental basis for a period of six months, noting that the arrangement also extended to machines outside London. It is not known whether the six month period referred to the arrangement in general, or whether it meant that a particular customer was limited to a six month trial period.
