History[edit | edit source]

Announcement[edit | edit source]

A new Neo Geo device was hinted at on August 1st, 2019.[1][2]

The Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro was announced on September 9th, 2019.[3] In late September 2019 a website was launched for the system.[4]

Launch[edit | edit source]

The console was released on November 11th, 2019.[5][6]

In December 2019 system cost roughly $130 USD,[7] and $300 Australian dollars in Australia.[8] The system has an MSRP of $129.99 USD.[6]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The console was generally received well.[8]

The good emulation of the console was generally seen as held back by the lackluster controller.[7]

Technology[edit | edit source]

Modes of Operation[edit | edit source]

The system could be used as an independent console, or as a controller for a different device. The console could also connect with another Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro console to facilitate multiplayer.[9][10]

The system supported Neo Geo Mini arcade pads as input devices.[9] Conversely the system itself could be used as a controller for the Neo Geo Mini.[11]

Compute[edit | edit source]

The system is powered by an ATM7051H SOC, containing an quad core ARM Cortex A9 architecture processor clocked at 1.3 gigahertz.[12] This is complemented by 256 megabytes of DDR3 RAM.[12]

The system contains 1 gigabyte of eMMC flash memory for storage.[12]

Software[edit | edit source]

The console supported a number of visual filters for display output.[13]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

The design of the Neo-Geo CD pad inspired the design of the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro.

The controller arrangement was based on that used by the Neo-Geo CD.[6]

Micro switches are used in the control stick.[14] Button configurations on the device could be changed by the user.[15]

An internal compartment accessible from the bottom of the device could be used to store cabling.[12]

Various optional accessories were made available, including silicon covers for the console, the stick ball, and for external control pads.[6] Other accessories included button stickers, A branded red USB type A to type C power cable, and a branded white USB type A to type C adapter.[6]
