History[edit | edit source]

Square Enix Headquarters in 2013.

Dive In was a streaming service operated by Square Enix separately from their other streaming service in Shinra Technologies.[1] The service focused on three day rentals for mobile devices with costs ranging from 200 yen to 250 yen.[2]

Launch[edit | edit source]

The service was announced to the public by September 9th, 2014.[3] with a set launch date just one month later on October 9th, 2014.[2]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The service was discontinued on September 13th, 2015,[4] less then a year after launch. This is generally considered a short time for a gaming platform to be on the market.

Technology[edit | edit source]

There were streaming apps available for the mobile operating systems Android and Apple's iOS.[3]

The service was geographically restricted to Japan.[3] This coupled with the short time the system was on the market, lead to relatively muted English language coverage of the system.
