Introduction

For this unit, we will begin working with adjectives. In the following activity, try to determine the matching sentences,
and identify and translate the adjectives.

Part 1: Adjectives

In Part 1 will learn about different kinds of adjectives and how they
are used with three main verbs: ser, estar, and tener.
Activity 1:
In this activity, practice identify adjective meanings by selecting the correct picture for each sentence.
Later, we will pay closer attention to which verbs are used with which adjective type.


Adjectives Used With Ser
Adjectives used with ser are typically description words that are permanent in nature,
like someone's height and other physical attributes as well as
other states of being that are permanent.

bajo / baja short Ella es baja.
alto / alta tall Yo soy alto
delgado / delgada thin La niña es delgada.
gorda / gorda El niño es gordo. The boy is fat.
amable friendly Las estudiantes son muy amables.
malo / mala bad El perro es muy malo.
bueno / buena good Mi amiga es muy buena.
viejo / vieja old Mi abuela es vieja
jóven young Los niños son muy jóven.


Adjectives Used With Estar

Adjectives used with estar describe temporary states, or changing states.
These are usually more commonly associated with mental states of being.

alegre happy Ella es alegre.
triste sad Tú estas muy triste.
enojado / enojada mad Ellos están muy enojados.
ocupado / ocupada busy Los doctores están muy ocupados.
nervioso / nerviosa nervous Antes del concierto, el músico esta muy nerviosa.
relajado / relajada relaxed En vacaciones, siempre estoy relajada.
tranquilo / tranquila calm Los niños nunca están tranquilo durante recreo.
preocupado / preocupada worried La mama esta preocupada.
asustada / asustado afraid Los niños están asustados del payaso.
confundido / confundida confused Estamos confundidos con el prueba de matemáticas.
cansado / cansada tired El padre esta cansado depúes del trabajo.
enferma / enfermo sick La chica esta enferma.
estresada / estresado stressed El estudiante esta estresado.

Adjectives used with tener typically describe temporary states that are associated with actions, or imply actions to be taken.

sed thirst Yo tengo sed después de ejercicio.
hambre hunger Él tiene mucho hambre antes del almuerzo.
prisa hurry Tengo prisa para llegar a trabajo en tiempo.
verguenza embarrassed Tú tienes vergüenza.
cuidado careful Ella tiene cuidado cuando esta caminando tras la calle.
sueño / sueña sleepy El bebe tiene sueño.
miedo / mieda fear Ellos tienen miedo de la película.
