In the context of Middle Eastern food, Sweet Pepper most commonly refers to Paprika. The spice blend Baharat, the most-used spice in the Arabic cuisine, can use Sweet Pepper as the term for Paprika. To confuse matters, in Syria the spice mixture Baharat consists mostly of Allspice. Allspice is referred to as Sweet Pepper in some cuisines because of the shape of the seeds which is similar to pepper corns.
