The term groundnut may refer to any of the legumes in the Faboideae subfamily, including:
- Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea)
- Bambara groundnuts (Vigna subterranea)
- Hausa groundnuts (Macrotyloma geocarpum)
All of these legumes have slightly different flavor profiles, but they can generally be used interchangeably in cooking.
