Silicone brush
Natural bristle brush

A brush, sometimes also specifically referred to as a pastry brush or basting brush, is a paintbrush-like tool used to brush or coat foods. It is well-suited, for example, to tasks like brushing pastries and/or meats with butter, oil, egg wash, sauces, and more.

Composition[edit | edit source]

Pastry brushes come in various materials, with bristles made from natural boar hair, silicone, or nylon. Natural bristles are prized for their ability to hold liquids well, providing an even application, while silicone brushes are durable, easy to clean, and heat-resistant, making them suitable for a range of kitchen tasks.
