World War II/Submarine Warfare
From Wikibooks, the open-content textbooks collection
In the Pacific Campaign, the United States used submarines as one of the main ways for shutting down Japan's economy. What they did was target all of Japan's merchant ships and blow them up. By doing this, Japan couldn't get any resources because all of the ships with their raw materials were getting torpedoed by subs. Without these materials, Japan couldn't produce any war materials therefore forcing them to not have as many weapons, tanks, air planes, and other things necessary for war. Because the United State's naval blockade was so successful, combined with the atomic bombs and fire bomb raids, it helped win the war for the US.
