[edit] License

Wikipedia's license, the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) requires that any derivative of works from Wikibooks must be released under that same license, must state that it is released under that license, and must acknowledge the main authors (which some claim can be accomplished with a link back to that article on Wikibooks). This does not apply to material that was released into the public domain, to material whose authors have given permission, and to use that can be defended as fair use.

The web sites listed on the "compliance" pages below use content original to Wikibooks as a source for at least some of their content. Wikibooks itself are not included.

[edit] Non-compliance process

If you see a site that uses Wikibooks content improperly, report it here.

Next step is to send standard GFDL violation letter to the page author. Remember to add entry to meta:Non-compliant_site_coordination.

[edit] List

[edit] cookbook.foodsnwines.com

not compliant

  • no source, no license

Look at this: http://cookbook.foodsnwines.com/food-guide/recipes/sushi/ and compare with Cookbook:Sushi. This site violates GFDL license of Wikibooks. Should we write to owners of the site?

BTW, do we have something like w:Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks and w:Wikipedia:Standard GFDL violation letter? We should at least have links to these articles. I'll add link to Wikibooks copyrights and license to our footer. --Derbeth 09:17, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Due to additions I was making to the pertinent text when Derbeth was making this post, this comparison should be made to the history version dated November 6, 2005, which was before my changes. I'm not sure how to link to a history(nothing in the 'Editing help'), or else I would place a link to the relevent one here. --Unformed 17:11, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

It's not the only case, browse through the site, there are many cases of articles having the same contents as ours. Look at the history, 23th May 2004. I don't think our article is copyright violation, it's rather opposite situation. --Derbeth 20:04, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
I sent an e-mail and wait for reply. --Derbeth 13:57, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Somebody ripped off our paella recipe too. Somewhere in the history of this staff lounge page you can find a note I wrote about it, explaining which version of our text was being infringed. AlbertCahalan 05:48, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] dsl.algebra.com

fully compliant

  • link to license and source (example)

Other than referring to all Wikimedia content as being from Wikipedia this mirror is fine. GarrettTalk 01:59, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] emytextbooks.com

fully compliant

  • no link to text of the GFDL, live article link only works for Wikipedia content
  • copyright footer could be misconstrued as applying to the mirrored content itself
  • example module

Bah. Again, I can't spare the time to deal with this. Family comes first... :( GarrettTalk 02:30, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] infosanctum.wikinerds.org

not fully compliant

  • link to license but only a vague mention that the content might have come from us, and the only link is to our main page (example)

This is so vague as to be unacceptable. I can't really spare much time to deal with copyright worries at the moment so if someone else could email them that would be great. GarrettTalk 01:59, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] www.internetbooks.info

fully compliant

  • link to license and source

Just ok. --Derbeth talk 18:25, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] www.objectssearch.de/books/

not fully compliant

  • no source, no actual link to text of the GFDL

Example: http://www.objectssearch.de/books/index.php/Programming:C - old version of Programming:C, now Programming:C history. Whole site appears to be old mirror. But still it has no link to original source of articles. --Derbeth talk 19:15, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

No response from server. --Derbeth talk 10:03, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] www.recipes24.net

fully compliant

  • link to license and source

http://www.recipes24.net/recipes/meat/paella.html and Cookbook:Paella. However, I can't find other articles taken from Wikibooks. I sent an e-mail. --Derbeth talk 19:15, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Done. Author of the page promised he will fix any recipies taken from Wikibooks if we find any. --Derbeth talk 10:48, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] www.researcharea.org

fully compliant

  • link to license and source

Well done. --Derbeth talk 19:15, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] www.strategywiki.net

fully compliant

  • link to license and source

See their copy of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for example. Also some Wikipedia dumping. I left a message regarding this, and hopefully they'll clear it up soon. GarrettTalk 05:00, 11 January 2006 (UTC)

UPDATE: now corrected, seems they just weren't aware of the niggling fine print. GarrettTalk 04:30, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] www.wikibooks.net

not fully compliant

  • link to license but only gives a link back to our main page rather than the exact page it was sourced from (example)

This is unsatisfactory. I can't really spare much time to deal with copyright worries at the moment so if someone else could email them that would be great. GarrettTalk 01:59, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
