Introduction to Sociology and Sociological_Theory

Halavais remarks that Communication researchers articulate "the ways in which individuals and groups use the technologies of communication--and in some cases are used by them... and in particular the place of persuasion". Those loathe to admit the latter will take up residence in the former.

Interdisciplinary Entanglements[edit | edit source]

There is a b[ou]rrowing pattern: "Economic subjectivism", "Interpretive sociology", "Social psychology", "Sociolinguistics".
The discipline of the Cognitive sciences gives greater credence to the individual and detailed study of biology.
The present field of Communications betrays four factions: Rhetorical Theory, Social theory, Theater and Journalism.
Theater Arts and Journalism are often distinguished schools.
The difficult relationship of classical Rhetoric and Sociological interpretation constitute a significant fissure within the Communication discipline.
The elements of linguistics, philosophy and computer science are prevalent in the Cognitive sciences. Convergence with the field will reinforce the Rhetorical (read: persuasive) nature of Communications. The terminology of rhetoric and the intertextual discourse of rhetorical scholars, quantitative analysts and interpretive researchers has and will continue to increase within the field.
