Quarter Turns[edit]

Music One complete rotation over four beats. Count is 1-and.
Opening Position Third or Fifth position. Step is performed on the balls of both feet.

Description[edit]

  1. Before the first count, turn head to the right, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one quarter turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward.
  2. On one lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position (i.e., the heel of the right foot is in line with the arch or toe of the left foot. Toes are turned out, but not at an extreme 180 degree turnout).
  3. On and turn head to the right, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one quarter turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward. The dancer should now be turned 180 degrees from the starting point.
  4. On two lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position.
  5. On and turn head to the right, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one quarter turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward.
  6. On three lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position.
  7. On and turn head to the right, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one quarter turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward. The dancer should now have returned to the starting position.
  8. On four lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position.

The step may also be performed turning over the left shoulder by reversing the working and supporting legs.

  1. Before the first count, turn head to look over the right shoulder, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall behind the dancer. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one half turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward. The dancer should now be turned 180 degrees from the starting point.
  2. On one lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position (i.e., the heel of the right foot is in line with the arch or toe of the left foot. Toes are turned out, but not at an extreme 180 degree turnout).
  3. On and turn head to look over the right shoulder, fixing eyes on a spot on the wall behind the dancer. At the same time, raise up on to the ball of the left foot and pivot on the left foot one half turn, so that the body is in line with the head. The right foot should be slightly off of the ground, toes pointed downward. The dancer has now returned to the starting point.
  4. On two lower the left foot, keeping the heel off of the ground. Place the right foot fully on the ground in an open third or fifth position.


The step may also be performed turning over the left shoulder by reversing the working and supporting legs.

Prepadanya[edit]

Opening Position Third or Fifth position. Step is performed on the balls of both feet.

Description[edit]

  1. Before the first beat, extend the right foot out towards the side.
  2. One one, shift weight onto the right foot, placing the entire foot on the ground. Raise the left foot and bring it behind the right ankle.
  3. On and, step onto the ball of the left foot, and extend the right foot out towards the side.

The step may also be performed towards the left.

Toe-Heel - turning[edit]

Music One rotation over two beats.
Opening Position Sixth position.

Description[edit]

  1. One one, hop and place the toe of the right foot behind the dancer.
  2. On and, hop and pivot 180 degrees on the left foot, turning over the right shoulder. At the same time, turn the right foot up, so that the heel is on the ground and the toe is facing upwards. The dancer has completed one half rotation.

To complete the rotation, the dancer can perform another toe-heel half-turn, or another step, such as pokhid skladnye.

The step may also be performed towards the left.
