The English Civil war began when relations between King Charles II and the English Parliament broke down in 1641. The King, realising he was at risk of assassination or detention in London subsequently fled to Oxford and raised his standard, symbolically declaring war. The parliament and king started gathering their own armies in preparation for open conflict. The English civil wars had begun
