Metropolitan Area Network[edit | edit source]

MAN is a network designed to be used by a metropolitan area, such as a city or a county; therefore, most MANs are owned by the city that has sole discretion over its operation. Wireless MANs are also known as municipal Wi-Fi projects and benefit the area residents of a city or large organization because it is free of charge. Funding for these networks usually comes from the local taxes of the residents. With technology progressing, more and more service providers are experimenting with creating MANs in various cities so that way their users are able to access the internet when they are on the move.
