To appreciate the differences between ser and estar, we must first realize that both words mean "to be". We must also be familiar with their particular conjugations:

Present Tense Conjugation

estar (to be)
	Singular	Plural
First	estoy	estamos

ser (to be)

To understand the meanings behind ser and estar, one can use the common acronym "El Poochie". El = Estar, Poochie = Ser.
