Introduction

Plan drawings for a herb spiral. Herb spirals are commonly used to teach introductory levels of permaculture design

Permaculture has its origins in the designs of produce gardens, farms, houses and communities, and so the examples and references in texts are dominated by such. It is hoped that over time, this text will collect references and examples of permaculture design processes being applied in a wider range of contexts.

This book aims to provide a theoretical overview of permaculture to serve as a starting point for the research and application thereof. It does not aim to serve as an encyclopedia as there are other resources for that (see Other Resources).
