J-Adventure[edit | edit source]

This is the "story" mode of Jump Superstars. Here you have to play through a map with four different islands, each with a number of stages. The first few stages are tutorial stages which teaches you how to play the game. All the other stages have a number of missions, which you have to fulfill to unlock komas, and to move on to other stages. You also unlock premade decks, multiplayer battle locations and "info characters" by playing through the stages.

Multiplayer[edit | edit source]

Here you can play against other people with Nintendo DS, or exchange decks with them. It's possible to play against others even if they don't have Jump Superstars, but then they'll only be able to use decks from your game.

Gameplay Description

The controls in Jump Superstars is quite simple, and may resemble a platform game more than a fighting game. Yet there is still a certain complexity to the gameplay. Even though all battle characters have the same controls, with one specific button to use special attacks, each characters will have different types of attacks for different button presses. For some characters Up + Y will be an uppercut, for others it could be a jumping attack, and for yet some others it may not even be an attack, but something else like charging the special bar or getting stronger.

Battle screen[edit | edit source]

On the upper left of the battle screen, which is the upper screen, is the health bar. When this bar is depleted, the character is KOed, and will either switch to another character, or, if all characters in the deck are KOed, will be KOed a while before revived.

Under the health bar is the specials bar. Next to this bar is a number, which is the number of specials you have left. This number is depleted every time you use a special attack, or when you use a support or help koma in your deck. The number of specials can be refilled by attacking, getting hit, or picking up coins or Jump Pirate items, or by using some komas or special attacks.

Controls[edit | edit source]

Left, right Move the character around
Down, R Defend
A Jump. Pressing again in mid-air will make the character do another jump. Some characters can also do a third jump in mid-air.
Down + A Jump down from a platform. Pressing this in mid-air will make character drop more rapidly.
B Normal attack
Up + B Upwards attack
Forward + B Ranged attack
Forward, Forward + B Dashing attack
Down/R (Defend) + B Counterattack
Y Weak special
Up + Y Weak special 2, usual upwards attack. For some characters this button combination is not an attack, but a status change or giving other effects.
Forward + Y Ranged special
Forward, Forward + Y Stronger dashing attack. (Same attack as Forward, Forward + B, but stronger.)
Down/R (Defend) + Y Stronger counterattack. (Same attack as Down/R + B, but stronger.)
X Strong special. Uses a special bar. Some characters can prolong their attack by pressing X several times.
Up + X Strong special 2. Uses a special bar. Some characters can prolong their attack by pressing X several times.

Spoiler-free Mission Guide

By completing missions in J-Adventure mode, you can unlock komas to be used in your decks. This page will list all possible missions in Jump Superstars, and how to recognize them. Since I don't know Japanese, I'll have to figure out some way to write the Japanese text for the missions, but for now I'll just have simple hints.

Mission text How to recognize
Missions to avoid damage:
Without being knocked out The mission text has the word KO, but no numbers.
Without being ringed out The mission text has the word KO, but no numbers. I don't know exactly how to distinguish this one and the previous one. But if you assume the previous one, then you won't fail this mission anyway.
Without being hit The mission text doesn't have any numbers or Latin letters. Actually, there are other missions which doesn't have that, but amongst them, this is the most common one.
With half J-Soul or more. The mission text has the letter J.
With full J-Soul. The mission text has the letter J. I don't know how to distinguish these two either, but just assume that it means full J-Soul, and you won't fail the previous mission either.
Clear with all characters having full J-Soul. The mission text has the letter J, and none of the two above missions apply. This mission isn't very common, so it's usually one of the above.
Win without getting hit by a stronger type
Missions to get knockouts:
Win with over X times ringing out opponent Mission text shows a number inside [], and includes the word KO.
Ring out player X at least X times Same as above, but also has the word 2P, 3P or 4P.
Ring out each enemy at least X times If the mission text shows a number inside [] and includes the word KO, but none of the above two missions seem to apply.
Clear with at least X higher score than opponent
Missions to use specific decks:
Have exactly 10 help characters The mission text has the number 10, without the words 以上 afterwards.
Have exactly 5 support characters The mission text has the number 5, without the words 以上 afterwards.
Win with a deck of X type battle characters
Win without any X-size koma in the deck The mission text starts with a number (4, 5, or 6) in [].
Win with X komas in deck
Missions to use/avoid specific buttons/attacks:
Win without using (X, B or Y) button The mission text shows a button (X, B or Y).
Win with at least X hits with Dream Combo
Win with at least X hits with Super-Tag
Use support characters X times
Win with at least X hits with stronger nature
Win using only stronger nature
Other:
Clear the stage The first mission of every stage.
Clear before X count! Mission text shows a number, not inside [], usually being 20, 30, 40 or 50.
Clear with full specials bars
Without using doublejump Mission text starts with the word 空.
Win without changing characters more than X times

Koma Matching

Matching Trick[edit | edit source]

This trick makes the serif koma matching process much easier by informing you what anime/manga the koma in question is from.

  • Apply a # filter (i.e. 1-5) and find the serif koma in question.
  • Take the serif koma in question and place it in a new team. It must be the only koma in the team.
  • Toggle on the anime/manga filter by tapping the kanji (not the dropdown arrow!)
  • Toggle off the # filter.
  • The koma that appear on this list are from the same series as the serif koma in question.
