Family Cyperaceae (cont'd)[edit]

Subfamily Cyperoideae (cont'd)[edit]

Tribe Cariceae[edit]

The genus Carex is represented by more than 200 species in New York. Of these, all but about a dozen species are native to New York State.[1]

Here, they are organized by sections, using the modified version of Kenneth Kent Mackenzie’s system used in the Flora of North America.[2]

The two species of Asiatic sand sedge included here in Carex sect. Macrocephalae have not been reported in New York, but have been reported in nearby states and are considered to be potentially invasive.[3]
