Wainar fulawa is a type of savory Nigerian pancake found in the north of the country. Easy to prepare and requiring few, cheap ingredients, it makes a fantastic appetizer and goes well with a cold beverage like zobo.

Ingredients[edit | edit source]

Procedure[edit | edit source]

  1. Use a blender, grater, or mortar and pestle to grind the pepper and onion to a paste.
  2. Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl, and mix in the stock cube and salt.
  3. Mix in the pepper-onion paste and egg. If necessary, add a little water so you get a batter.
  4. Heat a thin layer of oil in a nonstick pan. Spoon in enough batter to make a pancake.
  5. Cook the pancake on one side, then flip and cook on the other side. Remove from the heat.
  6. Repeat the cooking process with the rest of the batter.
  7. Serve the wainar fulawa with cold zobo.
