Guyana is a country located on the northern coast of South America. It borders the Caribbean Sea, and is the only nation in South America to speak English, due to it's past history as a British colony. Because of this, it is culturally associated the Caribbean island nations than to the rest of South America, and is formally recognized as a Caribbean country.

Guyanese foods have a distinct blend of influences from East Indian, African, Amerindian, Chinese, Caribbean, and European cultures. Dishes are usually based on seafood, and are Creole in nature, like the rest of the Caribbean. Amerindian dishes like pepperpot, a spicy stew that is cooked in cassava juice and East Indian based dishes such as roti and curries are widely prevalent along with Chinese foods.
