Chigorin Variation[edit | edit source]

White develops the queen to e2, an active square that can attack the king later. c5 stops d4 while maintaining control of the center. Nf3 develops the knight to its natural square while making an e5 blockade impossible without d6.

A good move: Many viable options such as Nc6.
