Chess piece placement puzzles are puzzles where certain pieces have to be placed on the board and satisfy certain conditions.
Chess directmates are problems where White starts and wins in a clearly stated number of moves.
Chess endgames and middlegames are problems where the number of moves is indefinite, and White (or Black) has to either win or tie.
