Annotations to James Joyce's Ulysses/Aeolus/124
Pardon, monsieur (French) Excuse me, sir. Lenehan is noted for his frequent use of French. Joyce's principal model for Lenehan was Michael Hart, a friend's of Joyce's father who died around 1900; Hart too had a habit of speaking French. See 657.20, where Bloom recalls the death of Hart.
