Writing Adolescent Fiction/Character names/Australian Aboriginal

Usage note

[edit | edit source]

The majority of Aboriginals in Australia have surnames of English, Welsh, Scottish, etc. origin. Few Aboriginals have Aboriginal first names today, although one such name, the girl's name Kylie, has become internationally popular among people of all races.

In some Aboriginal tribes, people will change their surnames upon death. A famous example is the Australian musician George Rrurrambu, who became George Burarrwanga after he passed away, due to his religious beliefs.
