After the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. Hardly a building is left standing

Hoping to end the war in the Pacific and to save American lives by not invading Japan, the United States decided to use the "Atomic Bomb". On August 6 and 9, 1945 the US president, Harry Truman, ordered that the air force dropped atomic bombs on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Though these killed over 200,000 people, they probably saved the lives of more American and Japanese soldiers as more were likely to have been killed if the allies had invaded Japan. Six days after the bombs were dropped, the Japanese surrendered, ending the war.
