As a member of the Continental Congress he presided over some important debates about the wording of the Declaration of Independence. He also signed the Declaration.

His son William Henry Harrison became the ninth President of the United States in 1842, and his great grandson Benjamin Harrison became the twenty third President of the United States in 1889.
