Personal Characteristics

  • I married a wonderful man from Norfolk, Donald and we have a daughter named Denisse, she is an ODU student majoring in English.
  • I was born, raised and studied in Trujillo, a great Spanish town on the north coast of Peru. I traveled many South American countries like Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile. I went to Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico in the Carabbean.
  • I traveled some Europeans countries like, Spain, France, England, Italy, German, Scotia, Belgian, Holland, Greece and Turkish.
  • I made the Dean list last semester, and I take my courses very serious. I considered myself as a people person and I love to share my experiences the different cultures that I visited to my students.

Philosophy of Education

To be a teacher it is not sufficient to know the subject or to like children. While these effects are important; a teacher has to know how to efficiently organize and manage a classroom. A teacher needs to maintain his/her classroom, arrangement of desks and working space, the attractiveness appeal of bulletin boards, colorful classroom with posters, TV, stereo system, everything to motivate children, enhance learning, and reduce behavior problems; the environment really is an extra teacher silently generating interest in the subject being taught. A teacher needs to plan the physical environment, deciding the rules and routines, collecting materials, supplies, and ideas. Create plans help use classroom time more efficiently by reducing confusion and wasted time. A solid environment conducive to learning must project long-range plans; like grading periods for the semester or year; the weekly schedule and the daily lessons plans sequence is also of great importance. Thomas Jefferson pointed out more than 200 years ago, “There is nothing more unequal than the equal treatment of unequal people.” Any teacher knows that children come in different sizes, shapes, colors, genders, personalities, and from different social and economics backgrounds. They develop physically, emotionally and intellectually at different rates. Everyone of them is capable to learn, but it is the teacher’s job to be sure that each one needs to feel valued, loved and accepted, by providing them the opportunity to learn and develop from their level of knowledge to the level accepted by or exceeding educational expectations.
