All About me....

Hi, my name is Tasha Taylor-Davis. I am currently residing in Portsmouth, VA with my two beautiful children (Shanice is 11 yrs and Malik is 7yrs). I received my Asssociate's in Arts Degree at St. Philip's College in San Antonio, Texas. Before I left Texas, I was an Assistant Coach at Herman Hirsch Elementary for PK-5 (I attended this school as a student from Kinder to 5th grade). Prior to being an Assistant Coach before my husband was stationed here in VA, I was an Assistant Pre-K Teacher for two years at W. W. White Elementary. The classroom had my heart even though I enjoyed being a coach. I knew I would become a teacher at the tender age of five when I sat in my Kinder class with Mrs. Verreal who taught with such passion and patience. I am a full-time student and a junior at ODU where I intend on receiving a Bachelor's in Elementary Education PK-6 in 2010.

Hobbies....I love to read romance novels in my spare time because I believe that all dreams do come true if you believe. I like to engage in sports (soccer, football, basketball, etc.) with my son and girly things (dress up, tea parties, girly movies, etc.) with my daughter when I'm not attending school.

Philosophy of Education....

For me, education is a priviledge which allows everyone the opportunity to become productive citizens in the world. The question I use to ask myself was, "Without education, where would I be?" I remember the stories my grandmother use to tell me when I was growing up about our ancestors as slaves working the fields of their masters. I also remember my other grandmother telling me of our Indian heritage with wild horses to train, children running free, women cooking and sewing, and men hunting for food. Now if my ancestors were educated with the knowledge of how to read and write, one side of my family would be running free and making a profit off the land that was rightfully theirs while the other side would be working on their own land with no masters to beat them into submission. Without education, I know I wouldn't be here today studying to become a teacher. My passion is to teach students from all walks of life how to become productive no matter where they come from or what they choose to do in life .

As a parent and an Assistant, I have seen my share of effective/ineffective teachers. As an Assistant, I was thrust into the role of teaching because I had a teacher who was ineffective. Now, I plan to adjust my teaching style to fit the learning style and needs of each individual student even if a student is bilingual, "at risk", or special needs. I plan to lecture, have group assignments, and a lot of hands on activities to keep the students involved. I want to make school enjoyable as well as educating for all my students. My classroom environment will be filled with motivation from not just me as their teacher but from fellow students. I plan for my classroom to become a family where no one gets left behind. The classroom will be filled with parental involvement in and out of class with guidance on how to be an effective helper with your child's education. I plan to mail updates of each individual student's progress whose parents are unable to physically be involved. I want every parent, regardless of their situation to be involved in the process of making their child a fruitful person. I also plan to collaborate with other teachers to see what different types of teaching styles are effective or ineffective. My classroom will be filled with different types of learning activities on the computers. I want my students to be knowledgeable about computers and its use as technology continues to grow. I want to teach academics, values, and cultures without sacrificing either one. The students should be able to use their imaginations to help teachers find new and better ways to teach the basics of Math, Reading, and Writing. Teachers are given the ability to help their students believe they can achieve anything as long as they put their mind to it.
